Join Amazon's Risk and Compliance Solutions team as a Data Governance Program Manager, driving the implementation of data governance initiatives and ensuring the integrity, quality, and security of Amazon's data assets. You will develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and processes aligned with regulatory requirements, and establish governance structures, roles, and KPIs to enable data stewardship and accountability. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders, strong communication skills, and the ability to drive organizational change through governance programs and education. You will also oversee data quality, metadata management, and reporting to leadership.
Key job responsibilities
Data Governance Strategy
• Develop and articulate Amazon's data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap
• Define data governance objectives, priorities, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Establish governance structures, roles, and responsibilities to support effective data stewardship and accountability
Policy and Process Development
• Design, document, and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures
• Define data classification schemes, data ownership models, and data lifecycle management practices
• Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices
Data Quality Management
• Establish data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring mechanisms
• Collaborate with data owners and stewards to identify data quality issues and root causes
• Implement data quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions as needed
Metadata Management and Documentation
• Work with business data owners to document metadata and data standards
• Implement metadata management processes to capture and maintain data lineage, definitions, and dependencies
• Populate data dictionaries, glossaries, and cataloging tools to facilitate metadata discovery and documentation
Data Governance Education and Awareness
• Provide training and guidance to employees on data governance principles, policies, and procedures
• Raise awareness of data management best practices and their importance to business operations
• Foster a culture of data stewardship, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Governance Oversight and Reporting
• Develop, track, and report on data governance activities and metrics
• Establish mechanisms for governance oversight, including regular reviews and audits
• Monitor compliance with data governance policies and assess effectiveness of controls
• Prepare and present data governance reports, dashboards, and metrics to senior leadership
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Information Systems, or other related discipline- 3+ years of data science, business analytics, business intelligence, or similar experience in big data environments experience
- Experience communicating clearly and concisely with leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
- Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (e.g. security, privacy, SOX, HIPAA etc.)
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Experience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in data governance or related areas (e.g., CDMP)- Familiarity with data governance tools and frameworks
