Join the Amazon Security Data Engineering (ASDE) Data Access team as a Software Development Engineer II to design, build, and scale data querying and discovery capabilities for security data at petabyte scale. You will develop features for data querying, scheduled jobs, and data discovery using big data frameworks like Apache Spark, Trino, and Iceberg, and collaborate with security domain experts. Responsibilities include designing scalable, fault-tolerant systems, troubleshooting production issues, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to documentation while participating in on-call rotations. The role supports Threat Detection, Threat Hunting, and Incident Response and offers a broad security-focused career path within Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environment
- Develop software features for data querying capabilities, scheduled job processing, and data discovery functionality at scale
- Build data-intensive applications using big data frameworks like Apache Spark, Trino, and Iceberg
- Collaborate with security domain experts to translate analytical requirements into well-designed software solutions
- Continuously improve code quality, development processes, and full-stack software practicess
- Contribute to technical documentation for knowledge sharing
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems

The Amazon Security Data Engineering Data Access team builds infrastructure enabling security engineers to query petabyte-scale data effectively. Our vision: "Provide secure, foundational data access and querying services to Amazon Security, enabling teams to analyze petabyte-scale datasets safely, with minimal cognitive load and optimal cost efficiency." We combine expertise in Apache Spark, Trino, and Iceberg with security domain knowledge to support security functions like Threat Detection, Hunting, and Incident Response teams. You'll collaborate with security professionals to understand their needs while designing solutions that strengthen Amazon's security posture.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 3+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
