Amazon's Alexa Devices BI team is seeking a senior BI Engineer to develop scalable data structures and automated dashboards to uncover insights about user and product experiences on Echo and Smart Home devices. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering, product, business leadership, and data science teams to translate data into actionable recommendations that drive KPI improvements. The role requires strong SQL, ETL, big-data handling, Python scripting, and experience with data visualization tools, with end-to-end project ownership and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
The successful candidate will have a great balance between expert technical skills (e.g. SQL, ETL, and handling big data) and business management skills to drive actionable insights that help improve KPIs. Exemplary communication/project management capabilities are a must given the team's close partnership with senior business stakeholders and highly visible goals. Importantly, the candidate will need to be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and able to think big while paying careful attention to detail.
Key job responsibilities
Work with leaders in the organization to identify opportunities and build analytical solutions that provide them with decision making capabilities and insights.
- Collaborate with Product and Tech teams to design analytics frameworks that will support large-scale data-analysis and correction of defects.
- Identify, develop, manage, and execute analyses to uncover areas of opportunity and present written business recommendations that will help shape the direction of analytics projects/products.
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions. Ensure data accuracy by validating data for new and existing tools.
- Design and influence operational best practices for reporting and predictive analytics to enable the team to scale
- Root cause analysis and uncovering core issues using data, then assisting to create new measures for the wider Amazon team
- Manage and execute entire projects end to end including project management, data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.
About the team
The Alexa Devices BI team (DBI BI) drives understanding of Alexa customers’ behaviors connecting the dots from multiple data sources to unlock opportunities that guides both forward-looking product and feature roadmaps (inc. 3YP), to drive new customer acquisition, and to increase customer engagement. We support several business functions Echo Family of Devices (EFD) Engagement, Alexa Marketing, Alexa Preview, Alexa Kids+ Subscriptions and Engagement, Media Experiences, Ambient Home Experiences and Smart Home Devices Marketing. The team is comprised of a good mix of senior and mid level BIEs.
Basic Qualifications
- 9+ years of professional or military experience- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience using Cloud Storage and Computing technologies such as AWS Redshift, S3, Hadoop, etc.
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
