Amazon's Alexa Devices BI team seeks a Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer to turn data into actionable insights for Alexa devices and experiences. You will build scalable data structures, automated dashboards, and analyses to inform product and business decisions, collaborating with product, engineering, and data science teams. You will own end-to-end analytics initiatives, ensure data accuracy, and drive KPIs through clear storytelling and recommendations. This role requires a strong mix of technical SQL/ETL/big data skills and business acumen in a fast-paced environment.

Amazon Alexa Devices BI team (DBI BI) is seeking an experienced Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer interested in developing ground breaking insights into user and product experience. This is an exciting opportunity to uncover ways to improve the Alexa experience on Echo Family of Devices and Smarthome devices. In this role within the DBI BI team you will leverage your technical and analytical skills to create scalable data structures, develop automated data visualization dashboards, and drive strategic insights on how to grow the business through a more compelling product experience. To accomplish your goals, you will be working closely with a wide variety of stakeholders including senior members across engineering, product, business leadership, and economics/data science teams.
The successful candidate will have a great balance between expert technical skills (e.g. SQL, ETL, and handling big data) and business management skills to drive actionable insights that help improve KPIs. Exemplary communication/project management capabilities are a must given the team's close partnership with senior business stakeholders and highly visible goals. Importantly, the candidate will need to be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and able to think big while paying careful attention to detail.



Key job responsibilities
Work with leaders in the organization to identify opportunities and build analytical solutions that provide them with decision making capabilities and insights.

- Collaborate with Product and Tech teams to design analytics frameworks that will support large-scale data-analysis and correction of defects.
- Identify, develop, manage, and execute analyses to uncover areas of opportunity and present written business recommendations that will help shape the direction of analytics projects/products.
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions. Ensure data accuracy by validating data for new and existing tools.
- Design and influence operational best practices for reporting and predictive analytics to enable the team to scale
- Root cause analysis and uncovering core issues using data, then assisting to create new measures for the wider Amazon team
- Manage and execute entire projects end to end including project management, data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.

About the team
The Alexa Devices BI team (DBI BI) drives understanding of Alexa customers’ behaviors connecting the dots from multiple data sources to unlock opportunities that guides both forward-looking product and feature roadmaps (inc. 3YP), to drive new customer acquisition, and to increase customer engagement. We support several business functions Echo Family of Devices (EFD) Engagement, Alexa Marketing, Alexa Preview, Alexa Kids+ Subscriptions and Engagement, Media Experiences, Ambient Home Experiences and Smart Home Devices Marketing. The team is comprised of a good mix of senior and mid level BIEs.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
