Software Engineer – ETL at Barclays, based in Pune, responsible for supporting the delivery of ETL and data warehouse initiatives. The role involves understanding requirements, test planning and data/test execution, and documenting testing activities in Jira, with a focus on automation and reducing manual effort using Unix/Python scripting. You will work with ETL tools (Ab-Initio, Informatica), SQL, and data concepts, ensuring quality, risk management, and collaboration across product, dev, and testing teams.

To be successful as a Software Engineer – ETL  you should have experience with:  

  • Understanding of ETL deliverables and should be able to test / validate AI/ PySpark graphs wherever required to minimize manual efforts.

  • Involved in requirement understanding and interact with dev team/BA on various aspects.

  • Actively involved in test preparation activity such as test cases, test data setup, test execution and ensure test coverage is 100% against requirement

  • Highlight the risks, Report/Escalate issues to test manager/program manager as appropriate.

  • Provide guidance to other team members on technology/domain/application queries.

  • Explore automation area using Unix/python scripting wherever possible and should be comfortable in writing scripts in Unix/python

  • Resource is expected to document all testing details in a Jira and Follow agreed guidelines.

  • New functionality is to be documented and shared with the larger testing team so that all are aware of any new changes to system behaviour and functionality

  • Publish daily/weekly test execution progress reports.

  • Ensure that test case execution and defect status are reported in concise form in progress reports.

  • Provide guidance to other team members on technology/domain/application queries.

  • Demonstrate implementation of process, strategy and/or testing improvement/efficiencies.

  • Demonstrate an improvement in business and/or system knowledge in your relevant program line.

  • S/w engineer with strong technical background having problem solving and analytical abilities.

  • Must have Strong knowledge and hands on experience in Data concepts, ETL tool (Ab-Initio, Informatica), Data Warehousing, SQL scripting with exposure to Unix, Mainframes.

  • Must have ability to work under tight deadlines whilst maintaining quality alongside driving test execution independently along with exposure on automating ETL area.

  • Should be open to perform both manual as well as automation testing on ETL DWH environment.

Some other skills may include:

  • Knowledge on Ab-initio, Unix, Oracle, Teradata, Mainframe Basics.

  • Awareness of modern programming languages like Python.

  • Exposure to Automation framework, scripting skills.

  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
