Senior Software Engineer (Senior Data Engineer) at Morningstar to join the Corporate Systems Data Enablement team in Mumbai. Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS), migrate data pipelines to modern data warehouses like Snowflake, and maintain data models and ETL/ELT processes. Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, product managers, and BI stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions, write Python code for automation, and ensure data quality, governance, and security. Mentor junior engineers and work with analytics and BI teams to support reporting and dashboarding needs.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Corporate Systems Data Enablement team to support Morningstar’s Business Intelligence Reporting, grow with us, introduce us to new ideas and develop products that empower our users. Every day, you’ll partner with team members across disciplines developing products for investors. You’ll interact daily with product managers, and business stakeholders to understand our domain and create technical solutions that push us forward. You will be a member of a vibrant technical community and share your technical knowledge while also learning from your fellow technologist. This position is based in our Mumbai office. 

Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines to support data integration, transformation, and storage in a modern data warehouse. 

  • Manage and maintain cloud-based data infrastructure on AWS. 

  • Maintain SQL Server-based data models and Informatica ETL processes. 

  • Support the migration of data pipelines from SQL Server to a modern data warehouse like Snowflake. 

  • Optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and data models for efficiency and scalability  

  • Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, product manager and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and provide efficient data solutions. 

  • Write efficient, reusable, and scalable Python code to automate data workflows. 

  • Monitor data quality and ensure data integrity, governance and security in the data pipelines. 

  • Troubleshoot and optimize performance issues across data systems. 

  • Mentor and collaborate with junior data engineers to improve overall team capabilities. 

  • Work closely with analytics and BI teams to support reporting and dashboarding needs. 

Requirements 

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. 
• Over eight years of experience in data engineering, building end-to-end data integration and data warehousing solutions for analytics teams. 
• Experience in designing and implementing ETL/ELT frameworks for complex data warehouses/marts. 
• Proficiency in handling large data sets, with experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting. 
• Experience with AWS compute technologies (Lambda, ECS/ECR, EC2, API Gateway, IAM, S3). 
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI. 
• Experience with Snowflake, DBT and DataHub is a plus. 
• Proficiency in Python programming for data engineering tasks (e.g., data wrangling, automation, and ETL). 
• Expert-level SQL skills. 
• Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and collaborative development practices. 
• Strong understanding of data governance practices. 
• Proven experience working within a global agile team. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
• A flexible team player who remains organized and productive while managing multiple deliverables.
