The Senior Technology Deployment Technologist – OEM provides customer technical support and quality assurance, and deploys and launches new products across AsPac markets and the Japan region. The role acts as a technology interface with Japanese auto OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, collaborating with regional Account Managers, Product Development, AsPac TD team and the Global OEM liaison team. It delivers technical support to resolve issues (including lab work and analysis) and provides product and application advice with basic lubrication training to technical staff, while contributing to new product development and performance testing. It also maintains the integrity of technical data, analyzes quality data to identify risks, and mentors junior team members while ensuring local materials and communications land effectively with customers.

Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Senior Technologist Technology Deployment liaises with the relevant parties within the AsPac PU or specific country market to provide overall customer technical support, quality assurance support, deploy and help launch new products. The role holder may be required to focus on a specific product area to develop experience and expertise but should also expect to cover different product areas depending on priorities and workload demands.

Key Accountabilities

         Engage with sales, marketing and supply chain in the AsPac markets to provide customer support, deploy and help launch new products, provide technical advocacy, quality assurance support and support new business opportunities (including technical input to tenders).

         Engage with Japanese auto OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers acting as a technology interface. This is in partnership with the regional and country Account Managers, Product Development, AsPac TD team and the Global OEM liaison team.

         Deliver technical support to customers to resolve issues, potentially including laboratory work/analysis and interpretation of analytical data and delivery of reports.

         Provide product and application advice and support with basic lubrication training to technical network/sales technical staff as needed.

         Provide input to new product development projects, support and monitor proof of performance/customer approval tests, identify suitable finished goods for purchase.

         Support quality assessments, resolution of local raw material shortages, incident management teams and quality incident investigations.

         Support country Technologist tags to deliver the technical communications for new product launches using global materials, adapting where necessary or creating materials to meet local customers requirements, ensuring that the technical benefits land in an impactful way in the CLTs/with customers.

         Provide leadership on the integrity and management of technical data. Support country Technologist Tags to ensure that claims are relevant, valid and substantiated for local law and in line with Product Development and Marketing guidance.

         Collect necessary quality data and information from region to analyse, develop and assess for trends and provide input on areas of greatest risk.

         Maintain technical knowledge of products, applications and competitor information as applicable to responsibilities.

         Coach and mentor less experienced members of the team and share technical knowledge with wider technical community.

Job Holder Requirements

University degree in scientific field such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

  • Proven broad experience of lubricant development, quality assurance and technology commercialisation and deployment (mastery)
  • Broad knowledge of BP’s products (as applicable to the role) their composition, manufacture, and application
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to working and networking with subject matter experts
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in digitialisation of data and reporting.


Travel Requirement

Up to 50% travel should be expected with this role
