Role Description

Associate Data Engineer responsible for developing, optimizing and maintaining data engineering solutions on GCP. The candidate will work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams, contributing to medium and large-scale projects. The role requires hands-on expertise in cloud data engineering, Java and Spark, with additional experience in Python considered a plus. The candidate should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a solid track record in agile environments.

Your key responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for the following:

  • Operate as a team member within a Scrum Agile/Kanban team
  • Design, develop and peer-review new data engineering functionality using GCP and Java
  • Build and optimize scalable data pipelines using Spark and cloud-native tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver robust solutions
  • Ensure code quality through unit and system-level testing
  • Support data sourcing, transformation, and analytics development
  • Maintain documentation and contribute to process improvements

Your skills and experience

Essential Skills

  • 4–9 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a focus on GCP.
  • Proficient in Java programming; experience with Python is a plus
  • Strong experience with Spark and cloud data engineering tools (e.g., DataFlow, CloudComposer, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Dataproc)
  • Solid understanding of databases (RDBMS, SQL)
  • Familiarity with data security and data quality concepts (Consistency, Completeness, Accuracy, Lineage)
  • Passionate about test-driven development and agile methodologies

Preferable Skills

  • Experience in financial services, regulatory environments, or cross-product domains
  • Data visualization experience
  • Hands-on business and systems knowledge in a compliance or regulatory delivery environment

Education / Qualifications Req

  • Degree in a numerate field (e.g., Computer Science/Information Technology, Engineering)

Language Required

  • Good knowledge of English
