Sound like the kind of place you’d feel at home? We’d love to hear from you.

About the department:

ING provides banking services and complex financing solutions to companies globally.

To provide a safe banking environment for society and our customers, ING must comply with global Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and the Bank Secrecy Act in the United States. As such, we are actively fighting human trafficking, smuggling of drugs and weapons and do make sure international sanctions against countries and regimes are correctly executed within ING.

The Financial Crime Prevention (FCP) team in North America is offering a position in New York for a professional who enjoys working in an international banking environment. The FCP department coordinates all KYC related activities across different ING business sectors, both with external clients and internal stakeholders.

The FCP team is crucial in the onboarding of new customers and plays a key role in managing the non-financial risk of the current client portfolio.

About the position:

As the head of the Data Coverage Unit at ING FCP, you will play a pivotal role in driving the Transaction Monitoring and Screening processes, which include Name Screening, Adverse Media Screening, and Transaction Sanction Screening.

ING is growing fast and in the process of further extending its product offering. This is a new position in an existing team and the successful candidate will build the team, processes and tooling from the ground up, leveraging existing solutions in the ING network.

Once implemented, your primary responsibility will be to maintain the effectiveness of these processes by balancing risk coverage and efficient alert handling.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Coverage & Lineage
    • Work with the data global team to maintain the end‑to‑end data inventory, field‑level lineage, and scope mapping, and document transformations and reconciliations.
  • Data Quality & Remediation
    • Support the global data team in defining DQ controls, tolerances, and monitors; run data testing and reconciliations.
    • Raise, track, and remediate issues with owners; maintain defect backlog and risk acceptances.
  • 504 Readiness & Procedures
    • Lead DFS Part 504 readiness for data: evidence of completeness/accuracy, effectiveness testing, and exception governance.
    • Own any US specific procedures and documentation for data sourcing, mapping, and DQ controls.
  • Testing & Support
    • Execute sampling, reconciliations, and negative/edge‑case tests; support ATL/BTL from a data perspective.
    • Provide forensic data testing for escalated cases
  • Regulatory & MI Support
    • Define AML TM & Screening operational, effectiveness and DQ metrics and work with appropriate teams to implement them
    • Prepare data packs and walkthroughs for examinations, audits, and IV/MRM.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years’ experience within Financial Crime Compliance, regulations and industry best practices. Either as a consultant or in the industry.
  • Prior data experience in Screening & Transaction Monitoring is non-negotiable, including a track record of successful collaboration with Technology and Data Analytics groups globally
  • ACAMS certification preferred

Desired Skills & Abilities:

  • Entrepreneurial mindset: you excel in building new offerings and teams
  • Sound experience in building and executing strategic roadmaps
  • Tech savvy, where you anticipate and leverage innovations in digital and technical applications that make ING more effective in its fulfillment of compliance obligations.
  • Able to act with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure and professionalism
  • Confidence to interface with senior stakeholders, both external and internal.
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively or independently depending on the situation
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff: you maneuver easily through complex policies, processes and people-related organizational dynamics across ING
  • Ability to run projects and initiatives with limited supervision

Salary range: $178,000-225,000
