Lead Software Engineer on the Markets Tech team responsible for designing, building and delivering big data and cloud analytics solutions. You will develop and automate data extraction pipelines, design and tune schemas, land data from firm sources into a big data warehouse, and act as the primary SME for data on the analytics platform. The role requires diagnosing data issues, implementing data quality rules and controls, and optimizing query performance in cloud warehouses such as Redshift and AWS Glue. Strong coding skills in Python/Java/Apache Spark and SQL, AWS application development experience, and Unix/Linux scripting are required.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank's Markets Tech Team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

 

Job responsibilities

  • Investigate data issues, provide support on data issues.
  • Develop automation for data extraction.
  • Design and tune schema for data landed on platform, land data from various firm sources into big data warehouse
  • Partner with information modelling teams on firm wide logical data models.
  • Act as a primary subject matter expert (SME) for data in analytics platform.
  • Develop data quality rules and controls for data
  • Analyze and solve query performance bottlenecks in Cloud based warehouses like Redshift and AWS Glue

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • 3+ years of experience in big data and analytics.
  • Strong hands on coding in any one of Python, Java and Apache Spark & SQL
  • Strong CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms with good understanding of big data
  • Experience with AWS application development
  • Excellent communication skills are a must for this position
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Ability to code in Apache Spark using Scala is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of data modelling challenges with big data
  • Experience with services such as Lambda, Glue, ECS/EKS would be an added plus.
  • Good understanding of Financial data especially in front office investment banking is a major plus
