Hybrid Working, Job ShareJob Description Summary
The purpose of the Engineering Lead is to support the Lab leadership and the teams within their area to deliver against the strategy and their delivery commitments. Colleagues in these roles must come from an Engineering background, and this position represents the conscious decision of an Engineer to progress down the management track of the Y-shaped model. This allows these colleagues to start building up the broader set of skills required to operate in a engineering management position, not all of which will be developed under the Software Engineer role. However, they will remain deeply technical, providing technical guidance to teams and making sure that they make the right technology choices, though the broader set of responsibilities will often (though not always) take them away from actual coding on a very regular basis.Job Description
We’re looking for an Engineering Lead to join our Prudential & Analytics Platform to drive delivery of our new Model Risk Management tool and lead the transformation of our commercial model monitoring capabilities. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our end‑to‑end engineering approach — modernising and scaling the platforms that underpin critical modelling, oversight, and regulatory processes across the Group.
This is a high‑impact leadership role where you will guide engineering teams, set technical direction, and build cloud‑native, automated, and resilient solutions using modern data, cloud, and DevOps technologies.
About us...
Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. We’re investing heavily in cloud, data and modern engineering practices to transform how we deliver insights and capabilities across the Group. We’re growing with purpose — building platforms, systems, and services that are dependable, innovative, and ready for the future. Join us on this journey and you will too.
What you'll get Involved with...
You’ll lead engineering delivery for two major strategic workstreams:
1. Model Risk Management Tool
You’ll oversee the engineering strategy and build‑out of a modern Model Risk Management platform — enabling model owners, reviewers, and governance teams to manage model lifecycle, documentation, controls, and oversight.
2. Commercial Model Monitoring Transformation
You’ll lead the redesign and automation of the commercial model monitoring solution, bringing modern cloud patterns, observability, and GCP‑native tooling into the heart of our analytics ecosystem.
Across these workstreams, you’ll:
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership to feature teams
- Guide architectural decisions, engineering standards, and cloud patterns
- Lead delivery planning, prioritisation, and alignment across teams and stakeholders
- Mentor engineers, championing high‑quality engineering practices
- Partner closely with Product, Data Science, Risk, and Architecture teams
- Drive automation, CI/CD, and best‑practice DevOps across delivery
- Ensure solutions are robust, compliant, and meet operational and regulatory expectations
What you'll need...
- Significant engineering leadership experience (typically 7+ years in software/data engineering, with leadership responsibilities)
- Strong technical background with experience designing and delivering cloud‑native systems
- Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform, ideally including:
- BigQuery
- Cloud Composer
- Cloud Storage
- Logs Explorer
- Data Catalog
- Strong experience building and leading development of model monitoring, analytical platforms, or data‑intensive workflows
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to guide engineering standards
- Experience leading teams using dbt (Data Build Tool) for modelling and transformation
- Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automation, ideally using Harness
- Experience delivering solutions via Docker, Kubernetes, and modern orchestration patterns
- Background in building scalable, secure, and observable cloud capabilities
- Strong delivery leadership across agile, multi‑disciplinary teams
- Ability to influence across technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Any of the following would be great to see...
- Experience working in regulated environments, model risk tooling, or governance workflows
- Knowledge of model lifecycle management, monitoring, validation, or model oversight
- Experience migrating complex legacy analytics systems into cloud‑native architectures
- Understanding of infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, Deployment Manager)
- Experience building dashboards, monitoring frameworks, or automated alerting for analytical workloads
- Knowledge of distributed data systems or streaming architectures
- Experience leading distributed teams
