About this opportunity

Prudential & Analytics (P&A) is on a major transformation journey, investing in people, data, and technology to modernise regulatory reporting, risk analytics, and model‑ready data. We’re moving from legacy platforms to scalable, resilient services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)!

This role offers the chance to lead regulatory and technology change—setting engineering standards and guiding teams to deliver secure, compliant, and cost‑effective data products in a regulated UK banking environment!

We’re looking for a hands‑on engineering leader who sits at the intersection of data and software engineering, enjoys solving complex problems, and inspires teams to do their best work.

The impact you’ll have:

  • Lead high‑performing teams: Build psychologically safe teams with strong engineering standards and ownership.

  • Deliver at scale: Ship reliable services for prudential calculations and regulatory reporting.

  • Set engineering excellence: Drive CI/CD, testing, code quality, and secure, observable architectures.

  • Design and run data platforms: Own canonical data models and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines on GCP.

  • Modernise and enable: Embed governance, modernise legacy analytics safely, and grow engineering capability through coaching.

About us

If you think all banks are the same, you’d be wrong. We’re an innovative, fast-changing business that’s shaping finance as a force for good. A bank that’s empowering its people to innovate, explore possibilities and grow with purpose.

What you’ll need

  • Drive engineering decisions across modern cloud engineering stack.

  • Embed CI/CD and quality gates and champion data engineering excellence.

  • Partner across DevOps, QA, Security and Product.

  • Proven data engineering experience including designing data models, normalisation, and entity relationship for analytics at scale.

  • Hands-on building ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestrations (ideally Airflow/Cloud Composer) on GCP.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: version control (Git/GitHub), PR discipline, code reviews, automated testing (unit/integration), and CI/CD.

  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering and service development; writing clean, efficient, well-structured code.

  • Practical data governance mindset: access controls, lineage, cataloguing, and data quality embedded into delivery.

  • Experience in a regulated environment (banking/financial services ideal) and familiarity with prudential/regulatory data needs (e.g., Basel III, CRD IV).

  • People leadership: coaching engineers, setting standards, aligning teams around outcomes, and creating momentum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GKE/Kubernetes (containerising and operating services) and Cloud Storage patterns.

  • Product knowledge within Retail / Commercial bank and the products / tooling in place currently to allow for discussions on architecture design and migration of data

  • Experience with AI‑enabled software development and engineering

  • Familiarity with data product thinking (domains, contracts, SLAs/SLOs).

  • Observability for data systems (e.g., metrics, alerting, lineage, anomaly detection).

  • Performance tuning in BigQuery (partitioning, clustering, materialized views).

  • Experience modernising legacy analytics codebases into cloud-native pipelines.
