Lead and coach a team of data engineers within Danske Bank's Global Insights department, delivering enterprise-scale data engineering solutions. Own the engineering roadmap and drive Agile practices, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence. Manage talent through hiring, onboarding and performance reviews, and grow succession plans while ensuring governance, standards and scalable architectures. Collaborate with stakeholders to align priorities, manage risks, and sponsor innovation including PoCs and AI-enabled solutions.

Location: Vilnius, Lithuania

Our primary focus is on building, maintaining and optimising data pipelines using technologies like SQL, Python & others, with the nearest future plan to integrate tools such as Kafka, Databricks and Hadoop.

You will join the Global Insights department, part of Group Data and Analytics. Our team of experienced IT professionals, including business intelligence analysts and data engineers, values continuous learning, knowledge sharing and the adoption of emerging technologies to solve complex data challenges.

Danske Bank supports a high degree of workplace flexibility, with our department currently following a hybrid working model where we work at least three days per week from the office.

The position is based in Vilnius. The role does not include a relocation allowance.

 

Your job responsibilities:

 

Roadmap ownership: set priorities and manage delivery of the engineering roadmap, aligning across department
Agile culture: support agile ways of working and a culture of continuous improvement
People leadership: lead, coach and develop data engineers through clear goals, feedback and mentoring, and plan the team’s technical and delivery targets
Talent management: hire, onboard and retain top talent, conduct performance reviews and create growth and succession plans
Delivery excellence: ensure high-quality delivery to commitments by empowering the team to anticipate, surface and remove roadblocks early and resolve issues quickly
Standards stewardship: uphold existing technical standards and architecture; translate standards into clear behavioural models, train the team to adhere to them and deliver measurable improvements
Innovation leadership: sponsor innovation and proof-of-concept work, including generative AI, and guide decisions on when to scale solutions
Operational excellence: improve performance, scalability and reliability in production, promoting automation, observability and resilient design, and ensuring effective incident and problem management
Stakeholder alignment: build transparent communication with stakeholders, manage expectations and surface risks and dependencies early

 

About you:

 

Education: computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience
Experience: 7+ years delivering data engineering solutions at enterprise scale, including 3+ years leading engineers. Experience in a regulated environment is an advantage
Leadership: ability to run agile practices, mentor engineers and drive cross-functional alignment; experience hiring, onboarding and retaining talent, and building succession and growth plans
Technical leadership: deep understanding of data architecture and modelling for analytics and reporting; ability to guide engineers working with Python, SQL, Spark and streaming, and to review designs and code; familiarity with cloud data platforms, preferably AWS, and modern data engineering patterns; knowledge of orchestration, version control, testing and CI/CD, and infrastructure as code, e.g. Airflow, Git, Terraform and containers; experience with governance, lineage and catalogues, and tools such as dbt

Hands-on exposure (advantageous, not mandatory): AWS data services, e.g. S3, Glue, EMR, Redshift, Lake Formation and IAM; Databricks or Snowflake; Event streaming, e.g. Kafka, and APIs for real-time use cases; BI ecosystem and semantic layer integration, e.g. Power BI

Monthly salary range from 3920 EUR to 5880 EUR gross (based on your competencies relevant for the job).
