Microsoft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build internal tools and platforms to modernize Power BI Desktop and Service. Focus on end-to-end tool development including architecture, backend services, dashboards, telemetry, and AI-powered workflows to boost developer productivity, testing, release quality, and engineering insights. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and build internal tools, engineering systems, and automation capabilities that accelerate the quality and reliability of Power BI Desktop and Service. This role focuses on end‑to‑end tool development—including architecture, backend services, dashboards, telemetry integration, and AI-powered workflows—to improve developer productivity, test efficiency, release quality, and engineering insights.

You will work across cross-functional teams globally to modernize engineering processes, integrate GenAI into developer workflows, and deliver secure, scalable, and compliant internal platforms that support Power BI’s rapid release cadence. This is a high-impact engineering systems role requiring strong technical depth, innovation, and ownership.

Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, and implement internal tools and platforms that modernize engineering workflows for Power BI Desktop and Service.
  • Build scalable, secure, and reliable systems that support productivity, automation, and compliance across engineering teams.
  • Lead tool-driven automation that improves validation, release readiness, diagnostic workflows, and engineering observability.
  • Integrate GenAI, telemetry, and ML-based intelligence into tools to enhance coverage, detection, and engineering insights.
  • Modernize legacy systems by migrating them to cloud-native, maintainable architectures.
  • Partner with PM, QA, Release Engineering, and Partner Teams (Desktop, Service, Infra, ADO/GitHub) to align tooling needs and engineering OKRs.
  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of craftsmanship, learning, and technical excellence.
  • Influence engineering strategy through data-driven insights, metrics, and tooling analytics.
  • Drive continuous improvement through measurable success indicators and iterative tool enhancements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field AND 8+ years of Fullstack experience with AI, building software tools, internal platforms, automation systems, or developer productivity solutions.
  • Hands on experience with AI / Agentic AI / LLM / MCP servers.
  • Strong coding expertise in C#, TypeScript, Java, Python, or JavaScript.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field AND 6+ years engineering experience.
  • Experience building distributed systems, APIs, dashboards, or engineering tools.
  • experience working with engineering systems (e.g., CI/CD, ADO/GitHub, pipelines).
  • Proven ability to collaborate across global teams and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Experience building tools or automation for Power BI or other BI/analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Azure DevOps (ADO), GitHub Actions, Kusto (KQL), Azure Services.
  • Experience integrating GenAI into developer workflows (prompting, embeddings, agents, retrieval).
  • Passion for improving engineering efficiency through data, telemetry, and intelligent automation
