Join Microsoft Advertising as a Senior Software Engineer on the Conversion & Attribution team to strengthen near real-time conversion pipelines, processing conversion events with low latency and producing attribution signals for reporting and optimization. You will improve reliability, observability, and operational excellence for business-critical services while evolving our attribution platform toward a unified, configurable architecture. Collaborate with engineering, product, and data science stakeholders to define attribution logic, evaluation methodology, and rollout validation for changes. You may serve as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), on-call for monitoring and driving mitigations, and help build tooling for regression detection and diagnostics.

Overview

Help reinvent how advertising outcomes are measured in the AI era. You’ll join Microsoft Advertising in building the always-on measurement foundations that power performance, trust, and optimization at global scale. You’ll work on systems that transform raw conversion events into actionable attribution signals—so advertisers can understand what worked, what didn’t, and how to improve as customer journeys evolve.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Conversion & Attribution engineering team, you will strengthen the near real-time conversion pipeline—collecting and processing conversion events with low latency, and producing attribution signals used for reporting and campaign optimization. You’ll raise the bar on reliability, observability, and operational excellence for business-critical services, and help evolve our attribution platform toward a more unified, configurable architecture that supports cross-scenario needs.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders (engineering, product, data science) to determine requirements for attribution logic scenarios, including matching coverage, deduplication behavior, and correctness expectations.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for attribution logic and data contracts, including how identifiers and fallback behaviors are handled across inputs.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve the correctness, performance, and maintainability of attribution components (e.g., matching, deduplication, rules/model application).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise and partners with stakeholders (e.g., PMs/data science) to define evaluation methodology, success metrics, and rollout validation for attribution logic changes.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) by developing/following playbooks and being on-call to monitor attribution systems for correctness regressions, triage issues, communicate status, and drive mitigations for simple and complex problems.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends/solutions to improve reliability and observability, including building tooling/monitoring for regression detection, cohort analysis, and diagnostics when metrics move.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Data-oriented background: experimentation, causal thinking, or statistical evaluation of product changes (to support logic change validation) highly preferred.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating large-scale batch/analytics processing using Spark (Apache Spark or equivalent), including handling data schema/contracts, performance tuning, and reliable job execution at scale.
  • Hands-on experience building or evolving ads conversion tracking and attribution systems (e.g., conversion goal evaluation, attribution rule/model application, deduplication, and end-to-end attributed output correctness), ideally in unified/large-scale architectures.
  • Experience with identity resolution / graph-based matching and understanding of how opt-out, consent, and privacy compliance shape identifier usage and attribution logic.
