MSCI is seeking a Data Technology DMX SSA Data Engineer to build and operate the data platform and services powering analytics and mission-critical use cases. The role is a senior team member position responsible for leading initiatives end-to-end—from clarifying requirements and architecting components to implementing PoCs and guiding production rollout. It requires broad data technology knowledge, DevOps fluency, and the ability to collaborate with product management and cross-functional teams, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and AI-enabled innovation. This role is development-focused with no on-call responsibilities outside business hours.
Your Team Responsibilities
We’re a global, cross-functional team of data engineers and DevOps engineers led by a hands-on team lead. We build and operate the data platform and services that power analytics and mission-critical business use cases. We value pragmatic architecture, reliable delivery, and frequent PoCs to validate ideas quickly, leveraging modern tools—including AI—to accelerate development and innovation.
We’re looking for a senior team member who can lead initiatives end-to-end—from clarifying requirements with stakeholders, to architecting solution components, implementing PoCs, and guiding production rollout. This role suits a broad generalist in the data domain with strong software engineering fundamentals and an architectural mindset.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Build the future MSCI Analytics Data platform
- Collaborate with Product Management, Program Management and other internal stakeholders to convert business requirements into applications, tools, and deliver these as part of a product release roadmap.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across data and technology in implementing AI solutions and integrating services with MSCI’s data science products and platforms.
- Improve and create a modern and sophisticated platform using latest technologies and following industry best practices.
- Evaluate different Architectural & Design approaches, solutions, frameworks & technologies and recommend the most suitable one.
- Develop best practices for architecture, design, coding & automated test coverage.
- Architect, Design and develop secure, high performance, scalable and maintainable applications using appropriate architectural patterns.
- Ensure optimal availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency of real-time application development by advocating engineering reliability into the development life cycle with a focus on fault tolerant approaches. Our global operations team handles production support. This role is development-focused with no on-call responsibilities outside business hours.
- Contribute actively to the organization’s AI adoption by identifying use cases, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leveraging AI-enabled tools to drive innovation, scalability, and competitive advantage.
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
- Broad data technology knowledge (breadth over depth):
- Relational databases (e.g., Postgres/MySQL/SQL Server/Oracle) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB/Cassandra/DynamoDB).
- Data warehousing/lake patterns (e.g., Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, cloud data lake/lakehouse).
- Data formats & interchange (Parquet, JSON, Avro).
- 3+ years plus experience with one or more of the following languages: Python, Bash, Go (Go would be preferred)
- DevOps fluency: version control (Git), CI/CD, containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes or equivalent), and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform).
- Highly organized and transparent: able to structure work clearly, maintain accurate documentation of designs, decisions, and processes, ensuring visibility for the team and stakeholders.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues: share your experience, provide guidance on best practices, and help grow the team’s technical capabilities.
- Knowledge of C++/Java/Scala is a plus.
- Working experience with automated scheduling such as AutoSys or Control-M is plus
