Lead a team of data engineers within Xero's Marketing Data Science, Analytics & Insights group to design robust, reusable data pipelines and scalable data architectures. Own data architecture and processes to enable the organization to consume high-quality information at scale, while fostering a collaborative, people-centered leadership style. Focus areas include scaling cloud infrastructure with Snowflake, dbt, Python and AWS services; implementing CI/CD pipelines; orchestrating complex data workflows with Airflow or Prefect; and driving data quality monitoring to support ML/AI use cases. Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, analysts, product owners, architecture, security, and marketing to ensure correct technical implementation of deliveries.

The role / impact

As a Team Lead for Data Engineering, you will guide a talented group of engineers within our Marketing Data Science, Analytics & Insights team. Your work is central to building robust, reusable, and optimised data pipelines that allow Xero to leverage large and complex datasets effectively.

You will take ownership of the data architecture and processes that enable our organization to consume information in the most impactful way. By leading with a people-centered approach, you ensure the team delivers on technical goals while fostering a collaborative environment where teamwork is celebrated.

The team / how they connect

The Marketing Data Science team provisions the pipelines and solutions that enable Xero to deliver on its global data and analytics strategy. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and product owners to ensure they have the high-quality data required to make informed decisions. This role acts as a bridge, liaising with architecture, security, and marketing stakeholders to ensure every delivery is supported by the correct technical implementation.

The team is currently working on / Initially, you will focus on

  • Scaling and maintaining cloud infrastructure using a stack that includes Snowflake, dbt, Python, and AWS services like Lambda, SQS, and Glue.

  • Implementing and refining CI/CD processes using tools such as Teamcity, GitHub Actions, or Terraform to ensure seamless delivery.

  • Orchestrating complex data workflows with Apache Airflow or Prefect while managing containerised environments through Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Driving continuous improvements to data quality procedures and monitoring to support emerging ML and AI use cases.
