Design and deploy end-to-end teleoperation pipelines integrating VR/AR headsets and haptics interfaces with robotic hardware. Implement force-feedback and tactile sensing algorithms to provide operators with a 'sense of touch' for improved performance in contact-rich manipulation tasks. Collaborate with ML teams to capture high-fidelity state-action data for model training, including proprioception, visual, and force/torque data, and develop custom networking/streaming protocols to minimize latency. Conduct user studies to evaluate ergonomics, cognitive load, and telepresence to iterate on UI/UX designs.
At Amazon Industrial Robotics we leverage advanced robotics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve complex operational challenges at an unprecedented scale. Our fleet of robots operates across hundreds of facilities worldwide, working in sophisticated coordination to fulfill our mission of customer excellence.
Join us in building the next generation of intelligent robotics systems that will transform the future of automation and human-robot collaboration.
Key job responsibilities
Design and deploy end-to-end teleoperation pipelines integrating VR/AR headsets and haptics interfaces with robotic hardware
Implement force-feedback and tactile sensing algorithms to provide operators with a "sense of touch," improving performance in contact-rich manipulation tasks
Collaborate with ML teams to ensure teleoperation interfaces capture high-fidelity state-action pairs, including proprioception, visual, and force/torque data for model training
Develop custom networking and streaming protocols to minimize operator-to-robot latency.
Conduct user studies to evaluate ergonomics, cognitive load, and "telepresence" effectiveness to iterate on UI/UX designs.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience- Strong track record of research in bilateral teleoperation, haptic rendering, or spatial computing.
- Experience with haptics hardware (e.g., Force Dimension, HaptX, or custom wearable actuators).
- Deep experience with Unity 3D or Unreal Engine 5 for VR/AR development
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Robotics, with a focus on teleoperation and VR/AR- Knowledge of Control Theory (Admittance/Impedance control, Time-delay compensation)
- Understanding of 3D Computer Vision (SLAM, Hand-tracking, Point cloud processing)
- Experience programming in C, C++, Python or related language
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
