Senior Ergonomist on Amazon's Global Future Operations Ergonomics (GFOE) team responsible for applying ergonomics principles across the product development lifecycle and global facilities. You will conduct science-based risk assessments, biomechanical modeling, and digital human modeling to quantify MSD risks and develop engineering controls. The role partners with automation engineers, industrial designers, construction teams, operations leaders, and safety professionals to translate ergonomic findings into actionable design specifications for facilities, equipment, and systems. Amazon's Global Future Operations Ergonomics (GFOE) team is seeking a Senior Ergonomist to integrate ergonomics principles into Amazon's product development lifecycle across our global operations network.

In this role, you will conduct rigorous ergonomic assessments of facility designs, equipment specifications, and operational processes before they reach our operations. You'll apply advanced biomechanical modeling, computational ergonomics frameworks, and science-based assessment methodologies to quantify MSD risk factors and develop engineering controls. Your technical analyses will directly influence the design of Amazon's future buildings, automation systems, and material handling equipment at scale.

You will partner with automation engineers, industrial designers, construction teams, operations leaders, and safety professionals to translate ergonomic requirements into actionable design specifications. Your work will directly impact the health and safety of Amazon associates worldwide.

Key job responsibilities
Science-Based Risk Assessment & Biomechanical Analysis
• Conduct rigorous ergonomic assessments using established methodologies to quantify MSD risk factors
• Apply biomechanical modeling and computational analysis to evaluate force requirements, posture demands, and repetition patterns across design concepts
Engineering Controls & Design Integration
• Develop engineering controls and design specifications that address MSD risk factors through application of the hierarchy of safety controls
• Translate ergonomic assessment findings into actionable design requirements for engineering teams
• Conduct technical design reviews across concept, detailed design, and implementation phases
Digital Human Modeling & Computational Ergonomics
• Apply digital human modeling software to simulate human-system interactions
• Utilize CAD applications to evaluate facility layouts, workstation designs, and equipment configurations for ergonomics
Technical Documentation & Knowledge Development
• Create comprehensive technical documentation including ergonomic assessment reports, design specifications, and white papers
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Communication
• Partner with automation engineers, industrial designers, and construction teams to integrate ergonomic principles into facility designs and equipment specification
• Communicate complex biomechanical concepts and assessment findings to technical and non-technical audiences through data visualization and technical presentations

About the team
Global Future Operations Ergonomics (GFOE) is dedicated to enhancing workplace safety and health by systematically reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). GFOE's objective is to integrate ergonomics principles into Amazon's facility designs, equipment specifications, and operational processes. GFOE embeds ergonomics early in the development lifecycle, evaluating designs from concept through implementation to ensure MSD risk factors are eliminated. GFOE supports Amazon's entire network, ensuring a comprehensive approach to ergonomics improvement. This strategy supports Amazon's commitment to employee well-being and promotes operational efficiency by integrating state-of-the-art ergonomics practices into future building plans and forward-looking designs.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience writing and publishing technical white papers
- Experience communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Bachelor's degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
- 5+ years of professional experience conducting ergonomic assessments in industrial, manufacturing, or warehouse environments
- Ability to achieve Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or Chartered Ergonomist designation
- Demonstrated expertise applying ergonomic assessment methodologies
- Strong understanding of biomechanical principles, occupational physiology, and human capabilities/limitations
- Experience translating ergonomic assessment findings into engineering specifications and design requirements
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Tableau) for quantifying and visualizing ergonomic risk factors
- Ability to travel up to 40% to support design reviews, facility assessments, and stakeholder meetings

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and process improvement methodologies
- Master's degree in Ergonomics, Biomechanics, Human Factors, or related field with emphasis on physical ergonomics or occupational biomechanics
- 10+ years of industrial ergonomics experience with focus on prevention through design or design for safety programs
- Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or Chartered Ergonomist designation
- Advanced proficiency with digital human modeling software (3DSSPP, Siemens Process Simulate Human, Santos, Jack), experience with CAD applications (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) for facility layout and equipment design evaluation
- Knowledge of predetermined motion time systems (MTM, MOST, MODAPTS) and work measurement techniques
