Join Amazon Leo's satellite power systems team as a Sr. Battery Algorithm Engineer. You will develop and integrate battery models (equivalent-circuit, aging, physics-based) and solar array degradation models, and design state estimation algorithms for battery state of charge, health, and power. You will deploy these models on embedded or cloud platforms, work with large datasets to assess battery health over life, and implement power-system fault detection and mitigation. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to drive modeling, deployment, and test verification that meet vehicle-level requirements.

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

We are seeking an experienced Power Controls Engineer to join the satellite power systems team. You will be responsible to develop models and state estimation algorithms for satellite power system including solar arrays, power conversion, and energy storage.

You will work closely with a world-class team of engineers and business leaders to build/integrate models for satellite power system including battery model (equivalent-circuit, aging, physics-based) and solar array degradation model. You will also work on state estimation algorithms such as battery state of charge, battery state of health, and state of power of a battery which can be deployed on embedded or cloud platforms. You will be responsible for overall modeling & algorithm design, deployment, and test verification.

You will work with large datasets to evaluate health of battery over life and track accuracy of models and performance of system to vehicle requirements. You will also work on development and implementation of power system fault detection and mitigation.

Key job responsibilities
- Develop and integrate battery models (equivalent-circuit, aging, physics-based)
- Develop, deploy, and verify state estimation algorithms such as battery state of charge, battery state of health, and state of power of a battery.
- Develop and integrate power system models including solar arrays, power conversion, and energy storage.
- Develop and implement satellite power system fault detection and mitigation.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 5+ years experience in simulation, modeling, and state estimation for lithium ion battery packs.
- 2+ years experience and working knowledge of Matlab or Python to extract, process, and store information from large datasets.

Preferred Qualifications

- Battery management system design experience in the area of charging, state estimation, and protection for electric vehicle, drones, satellite, or launch vehicles. Experience developing equivalent circuit, aging or physics based models for lithium-ion battery systems.
- Experience developing degradation models for solar arrays and use event based measurements to estimation degradation.
- Experience driving requirements for power/battery algorithm design and implementation of state of charge/health/power algorithms in software (embedded or cloud).
- Excellent skill at organizing data and communicating key requirements to hardware, software, and test verification team.
- Experience in developing power system fault detection and mitigation.
- Experience in full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience. General knowledge of statistical analysis, signal processing, simulations, regression, optimization, and data analysis tools.
