Hybrid London-based role with a competitive salary.

Post-Graduate Data Science Intern – London

Paid – Competitive Salary (10-month, part-time contract)

Note: Candidates must have at least 6 months of education remaining following the internship.

Start: March 2026

About the Role

CME Group is the world's leading and most diverse derivatives exchange. This role sits within the Global Data Science department, a key thought leadership group that identifies and promotes significant market and client opportunities.

Our team is highly collaborative and collegial, bringing together expertise in AI, statistics, and derivatives to solve complex business issues across the EMEA and APAC regions. We are looking for an ambitious Post-Graduate student to join our London team to help build the next generation of data products.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work across sales, marketing, product, and research divisions to drive data utilization and build solutions for various business units.

  • Innovation & Prototyping: Brainstorm, design, and implement new models and internal/external tools. We embrace a "fail fast" mentality to deliver high-value insights.

  • Application of AI & ML: proficiency in applying AI or machine learning models to real business problems.

  • GenAI & LLM: Using Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI to enhance internal workflows, automate insights, or improve client-facing data tools.

  • Market Analysis: Analyze patterns and correlations among derivatives products and clients to identify actionable trends.

  • Tool Adoption: Increase the adoption of Data Science tools with both staff and clients through clear communication and robust implementation.

Requirements

  • Current PhD student in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Strong knowledge of statistics, probability, and machine learning.

    • Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, and PyTorch/TensorFlow).

    • Solid SQL skills for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Familiarity with Generative AI frameworks and experience prompting or fine-tuning LLMs is highly desirable.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills; the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Exceptional teamwork, natural curiosity, and the ability to break down ambiguous, complex problems into manageable pieces.

  • A "can-do" attitude—not afraid of hard work, proposing bold ideas, and finding "smarter" ways to work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud Computing: Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP/Vertex AI), AWS, or Azure.

  • Unstructured Data: Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and analyzing unstructured text.

  • Domain Expertise: Knowledge of Commodity and Financial Derivatives Markets (Futures and Options).

  • Programming: Scripting skills in an additional object-oriented language.
