You will provide data analytics and risk analysis to the desk, help with price forecasting, and work with the Paris and London teams to optimise trading strategies. The role blends front‑office operational responsibilities with development work, including building models, automating workflows, and data visualization using tools like Python and Power BI. When you join EDF Trading, you’ll become part of a diverse international team of experts who challenge conventional ideas, test new approaches, and think outside the box.

Energy markets evolve rapidly, so our team needs to remain agile, flexible, and ready to spot opportunities across all the markets we trade in power, gas, LNG, LPG, oil, and environmental products.

EDF Group and our customers all over the world trust that their assets are managed by us in the most effective and efficient manner and are protected through expert risk management. Trading for over 20 years, it’s experience that makes us leaders in the field. Energy is what we do.

Become part of the team and you will be offered a great range of benefits, which include (location dependent) hybrid working, a personal pension plan, private medical and dental insurance, bi-annual health assessments, corporate gym memberships, an electric car lease programme, childcare vouchers, a cycle-to-work scheme, season ticket loans, volunteering opportunities, and much more.

Gender balance and inclusion are very high on the agenda at EDF Trading, so you will become part of an ever-diversifying family of around 750 colleagues based in London, Paris, Singapore, and Houston. Regular social and networking events, both physical and virtual, will ensure that you always feel connected to your colleagues and the business.

Who are we? We are EDF Trading, part of the EDF Group - a world leader in low-carbon, sustainable electricity generation.

Join us, make a difference, and help shape the future of energy.

Job Description:

Department

The Short-Term Analytical Team is an operational team with the following structure:

  • 6 market analysts and a manager supporting the French Desk on weekdays:

  • 3 analysts are working on Intraday horizon in Paris

  • 3 analysts are working on Day Ahead and Week Ahead horizons in London

  • The analysts on shift analyse the whole European electricity system in order to support the desks for price forecasting and the trading strategy

  • 7 analysts, a deputy and a manager dedicated to the optimization of the EDF portfolio on Day Ahead and Week Ahead horizon.

  • These analysts are working 7/7 in Paris.

  • The analyst on shift models the available flexibility of the EDF system and translates it into EPEX orders to realise an economically efficient optimisation on the Day Ahead electricity market.

  • The Analytics Engineering Manager and 2 software engineers

Position purpose

In order for EDF Trading to maximise the return from the month-ahead to intraday wholesale power markets, either from EDF generation assets or through proprietary trading, the traders require detailed, commercially focussed analysis produced on a timely basis.

In the front office, working closely with both the short-term analysts in charge of EDF portfolio optimisation in Paris and the power traders in London, the Junior Intraday Power Market Analyst has a dual role covering both operational and development duties.

Main Operational Responsibilities

Market Analysis:

  • Provide data analytics and risk analysis on intraday power market to the desk

  • Support the Intraday Desk for the price forecasts and trading strategies

  • Liaise with the London based Analyst’s team when relevant

EDF system risk analysis:

  • Follow the Intraday and Day Ahead optimisation shifts

  • Communicate time critical information to the intraday traders

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including REMIT, through the consistent application of defined processes.

The junior intraday power market analyst is responsible of the whole life cycle of an application or a model: from the research/design to the development/implementation and the maintenance.

Example of models/applications/solutions:

  • Fundamental and quantitative (statistical, data science driven) models to better anticipate market behaviour and improve price forecasting models. All components of the market could be addressed like load forecast, competitors’ orders, availabilities, etc...

  • Automation of workflows

  • Data visualisation via powerBI or web applications

Experience required

Ability to work under pressure, timeliness, accuracy and the ability to understand the wider commercial implications of the work are critical to being successful in this position.

The junior analyst will use his/her expertise to support the intraday power trader while at the same time ensuring an effective operational relationship with the asset managers at EDF. He/she will be expected to take the initiative to continuously improve existing processes, tools and models with the aim of improving the overall management of the EDF portfolio and wholesale market positions.

Applicants for the role will also be expected to have strong communications skills with the confidence to work effectively with both power traders and others analysts, and experience in project management.

Hours of work:

  • The analyst will spend over 50% of his/her time on short-term operational analysis, and the remaining 50% will be split between project management and his own development or modelling work.

  • 40 hours per week
