Senior Manager role in HSBC's Global Insurance Finance, leading the design, execution and delivery of complex internal and regulatory stress tests. We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior manager, Stress Testing
This Senior Manager role will contribute to a critical function at a global level in the Insurance business, guiding the bank through one of the most complex financial risk management processes. This role is core to the development, execution, integration and enhancing use of stress testing to support Global Insurance Finance in achieving its objectives: optimisation of the balance sheet, efficient capital use and driving sustainable growth, incorporating ESG principles.
This role is part of the Capital Management & Stress Testing (CMST) team in ALCM function within the Global Insurance Finance and reports to Head of Capital Management & Stress Testing. The Stress Testing team is responsible for (i) driving global regulatory and internal stress testing and scenario analysis exercises. This would include both prudential (e.g. capital / liquidity stress tests, reverse stress tests, etc) and environmentally/ESG focused exercises (e.g. climate and nature scenario analysis); (ii) supporting integration of scenario analysis within decision making across business, finance and risk management.
The role holder will be responsible for supporting the designing, executing and delivering complex internal & regulatory stress tests as well as supporting the use the outcomes to support Insurance business balance sheet management. The role holder will use insights gained from ST to support assessing resilience to risks and size of opportunities, as well as achieving business objectives and driving sustainable growth. The role holder will use his leadership skills, technical excellence, will be involved in proactive collaboration and contributing towards high quality output in challenging environments.
In this role you will:
- Stress Testing Leadership: Support the design, execution, and delivery of complex internal and regulatory stress tests for the Global Insurance business, ensuring alignment with group standards and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Framework Enhancement: Support continuous improvement of the stress testing framework, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance methodologies, data infrastructure, and scenario design, with a focus on both prudential and ESG-related risks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with actuarial, risk, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure comprehensive integration of insurance-specific risks into stress testing processes.
- Vulnerability and Scenario Analysis: Co-own detailed vulnerability assessments and horizon scanning to identify emerging risks, supporting proactive risk management and scenario development relevant to the insurance business.
- Insightful Reporting: Produce timely, accurate management information and analysis to inform senior management decisions, supporting balance sheet optimisation, capital efficiency, and strategic planning.
- Strategic Influence: Help utilise stress test outcomes to strengthen financial resilience, inform risk mitigation strategies, and integrate ESG considerations into investment and business decisions.
- Governance and Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare the materials for relevant committees and forums, maintaining strong professional relationships and ensuring consistent, standardised approaches across teams.
- Leadership and Expertise: Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture, valuing diversity and continuous learning, while leveraging deep technical expertise in insurance risk, actuarial science, and financial modelling.
To be successful you will need:
- Extensive experience within either of the fields: actuarial or insurance risk management, or ALCM experience
- Strong understanding of insurance products, financial markets, and accounting / regulatory environment / standards (including Risk-Based Capital framework, Solvency II, IFRS17 GAAP).
- Strong technical background in a stress testing / scenario analysis / treasury / prudential risk management or,
- Experience in environmental scenario analysis.
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills. Proficiency of financial modelling and risk management tools.
