AI Engineer (Applied Generative AI)

Digitalisation – DSM (Digital Securities Market), LSEG

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated AI Engineer to join the Digitalisation team within DSM (Digital Securities Market) at LSEG. This role is suited to an engineer with hands‑on experience building production‑ready AI and LLM‑powered systems, who is eager to deepen their expertise in applied generative AI within a regulated, enterprise environment.

You will work on real‑world AI solutions that modernise operational workflows and accelerate automation across Capital Markets. The role focuses on Large Language Models (LLMs), agent‑based systems, orchestration frameworks, and cloud‑native AI services, with a strong emphasis on reliability, security, and responsible AI.

You will operate as a hands‑on contributor, working within established architectures and patterns, while learning from more senior engineers and gradually increasing your technical scope and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

LLM & Generative AI Engineering

  • Design, develop, and deploy LLM‑powered features and applications using Amazon Bedrock.
  • Build and maintain RAG pipelines, agent workflows, and prompt‑based solutions using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or LlamaIndex.
  • Implement prompt templates, evaluation techniques, and basic guardrails to ensure AI outputs are reliable and safe.
  • Apply appropriate optimisation techniques (prompting, retrieval, selective fine‑tuning) under guidance from senior engineers.

AI System Implementation & Orchestration

  • Implement AI workflows using AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, ECS, and containerised services.
  • Integrate AI components with enterprise systems including ServiceNow, Snowflake, MS Teams, REST APIs, and data platforms.
  • Contribute to the reliability, performance, and maintainability of AI services in production.

Data Engineering for AI

  • Build and maintain data pipelines supporting AI use cases using PySpark, Glue, Snowflake, Kafka/Kinesis, or similar technologies.
  • Develop and operate embedding pipelines and vector indexes to support retrieval‑based AI systems.
  • Follow established practices for data quality, versioning, lineage, and compliance.

MLOps / AI Operations

  • Deploy AI services using existing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code patterns.
  • Contribute to monitoring, logging, and evaluation of AI systems in production.
  • Work closely with platform and security teams to ensure solutions comply with Responsible AI and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Ways of Working

  • Collaborate with data scientists, DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver AI solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to shared codebases and tooling.

What Success Looks Like

  • You deliver reliable AI features or services that are used in live DSM operational workflows.
  • You can independently own AI components from development through production support.
  • You understand and apply best practices for LLM orchestration, RAG, and AI safety.
  • You grow in confidence and technical breadth, preparing for increased scope over time.

Required Skills & Experience

AI & LLMs

  • Hands‑on experience with LLMs, including prompt design, embeddings, and RAG‑based approaches.
  • Experience using LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience deploying AI or ML systems beyond proof‑of‑concepts.

Cloud & Software Engineering

  • Experience working in AWS environments, ideally with Amazon Bedrock.
  • Strong Python skills and experience building APIs or services (e.g. FastAPI).
  • Familiarity with Docker and modern software engineering practices.

Data & Pipelines

  • Working knowledge of SQL, Spark/PySpark, Snowflake, or similar data processing tools.
  • Exposure to workflow orchestration tools such as AWS Step Functions, Apache Airflow.

Professional Skills

  • Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast‑moving AI landscape.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with vector databases (OpenSearch, Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus).
  • Familiarity with AI evaluation techniques and output quality monitoring.
  • Exposure to knowledge graphs or structured data reasoning.
  • Experience in financial services or regulated environments.

Why Join Us

You will join a collaborative team applying modern AI and generative technologies to real operational challenges in Capital Markets. This role offers hands‑on exposure to production LLM systems, strong engineering practices, and opportunities to grow toward more advanced technical roles over time.
