Microsoft Research Asia Pacific (MSR Asia) is seeking a Senior Researcher specializing in AI with a strong focus on large language models, deep learning systems, multimodal foundation models, and embodied AI. The role involves leading long-term research programs, coordinating multi-team collaborations inside and outside Microsoft, and driving impactful research with dissemination through publications and external partnerships. You will foster relationships with academic and industry partners, align efforts with MSRA strategy, and create synergy across MSRA groups to enable innovation.

Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) is now looking for a Senior Researcher specializing in AI with a strong focus on large language model, deep learning systems, multimodal foundation models, embodied AI, and related fields. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive an ambitious research agenda while collaborating with diverse teams to push for novel applications of those research areas.
Responsibilities
- As an accomplished expert in a broad research area (e.g., large language model, deep learning systems, multimodal foundation models, embodied AI, and related fields) has a comprehensive understanding of the relevant literature, research methods, and business and academic context.
- Leads a joint research effort (possibly involving multiple teams/universities inside and outside of Microsoft) to pursue a long-term research agenda which is in line with MSRA strategy.
- Fosters cooperative relationships with academic communities, industry partners, and business groups within Microsoft to establish MSRA presence locally and support future growth.
- Creates synergy among MSRA research groups in multiple locations to enable collaboration and creativity
Qualifications
- Doctorate in relevant field OR equivalent experience.
- Passion to see research has a real-world impact on key challenges for society.
- Strong influencing and communication skills to engage with various stakeholders externally and internally.
- Be able to work within a dynamic team
- High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished and quality work product.
- Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.
