Join Qualcomm's QC Camera System team as a Summer Intern to perform end-to-end camera quality assessment and help develop AI-driven Auto-Exposure Control and HDR Tone Mapping features for Qualcomm chipsets. The role focuses on research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and computational photography, applying machine learning to improve AEC performance and HDR quality for video and still images. Responsibilities include exploring AI models (CNNs, reinforcement learning), HDR algorithm research, building image datasets, and developing simulators in Python/MATLAB and C++. The internship involves collaboration with test teams to design evaluation methods and validate algorithms before software release.

Company:

Qualcomm Semiconductor Limited

Job Area:

Interns Group, Interns Group > Interim Intern

Qualcomm Overview:

Qualcomm is a company of inventors that unlocked 5G ushering in an age of rapid acceleration in connectivity and new possibilities that will transform industries, create jobs, and enrich lives. But this is just the beginning. It takes inventive minds with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures to transform 5Gs potential into world-changing technologies and products. This is the Invention Age - and this is where you come in.

General Summary:

Job Function

Join the QC Camera System team to perform end-to-end camera quality assessment and contribute to the development and optimization of next-generation AI-driven Auto-Exposure Control (AEC) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging Tone Mapping (TM) features for Qualcomm’s industry-leading chipsets.

Job Overview

Our group creates industry-leading camera solutions for Qualcomm chipsets. We are seeking a research-oriented intern to explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Photography. Your primary mission will involve utilizing AI to enhance intelligent semantic-based AEC performance and to optimize HDR effects for state-of-the-art video and photo quality.

Key responsibilities:

  • AI-Based AEC Development: Explore and implement machine learning models (e.g., CNNs, Reinforcement Learning) for intelligent scene classification, metering, and exposure prediction.

  • HDR Algorithm Research: Research and optimized HDR algorithms, including single tone mapping enhancement or multi-exposure fusion, ghosting removal, and local tone mapping.

  • Data-Driven Optimization: Build and manage image datasets for training AI models focused on exposure control and dynamic range enhancement.

  • Utilize Python/MATLAB and C++ to develop high-fidelity simulators for AEC/HDR/TM behaviors.

  • Working with the test teams to design test methods for the algorithms and to facilitate the test of the new algorithms before SW release.

Minimum Qualifications

Overall, the candidate needs to be experienced in the areas of signal processing, and real-time embedded firmware/software development. More specifically, the selected candidate should:

  • Solid understanding of Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and experience in training models for image-to-image or regression tasks.

  • Good experience with Programming Language C++.

  • Ability to listen, speak and write in English fluently.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in publishing papers at top-tier conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, etc.) in computational photography or AI imaging.

  • Prior experience on camera AEC algorithm is a big plus.
Hands-on experience developing algorithms for embedded devices.

  • Experience in large-scale software projects.

  • Experience in Linux, Windows operating system, framework, application and development environment.

Keywords

AEC, Tone Mapping, HDR, Reinforcement Learning, Deep-Learning, Computer-Vision, C++, Python, PyTorch, CNN, TensorFlow, Transformer

Educational Requirements

  • Master's: Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Imaging/Optics Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering, and/or related field.
