As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the Backend team for RTCDP Collaboration, you will architect and build distributed, scalable backend systems at enterprise scale. You will design real-time and batch data pipelines using Kafka and Snowflake, implement orchestration workflows (e.g., Temporal), and work across AWS and Azure to deliver resilient cloud services. You will own the full lifecycle from design to CI/CD, testing, observability, and operational excellence, while guiding others and driving architectural direction. This role emphasizes ownership, complexity, and translating business needs into scalable technical solutions.
Our Company
Changing the world through digital experiences is what Adobe’s all about. We give everyone—from emerging artists to global brands—everything they need to design and deliver exceptional digital experiences! We’re passionate about empowering people to create beautiful and powerful images, videos, and apps, and transform how companies interact with customers across every screen.
We’re on a mission to hire the very best and are committed to creating exceptional employee experiences where everyone is respected and has access to equal opportunity. We realize that new ideas can come from everywhere in the organization, and we know the next big idea could be yours!
The Opportunity
What if data collaboration between enterprises could be as seamless, intelligent, and real-time as consumer apps — but built with enterprise-grade scale, privacy, and performance?
Adobe Real-Time Customer Data Platform (Real-Time CDP), part of Adobe Digital Experience, helps organizations unify known and anonymous data into real-time customer profiles. But profiles alone are not enough.
RTCDP Collaboration takes this further.
We are building the engine that enables organizations to securely collaborate on data — activating shared insights while preserving governance, scalability, and performance at massive scale. How does data actually move? How is it processed? How do we orchestrate workflows across systems, clouds, and partners in real time? How do we ensure trust, performance, and resilience while handling billions of events?
These are not theoretical questions. They are the engineering challenges we solve every day.
As a Senior Software Development Engineer in the Backend team, you will not just implement features — you will shape how enterprise data collaboration happens inside the Adobe ecosystem. You will help design the systems that allow businesses to connect, activate shared insights, and ultimately deliver more meaningful customer experiences.
If you are driven by complexity, ownership, and architectural impact — this is your challenge.
What you'll Do
Architect and build distributed, resilient, scalable backend systems that power RTCDP Collaboration at enterprise scale.
Design the data sharing and processing backbone — real-time and batch data pipelines using Kafka, Snowflake, and cloud-native technologies.
Implement and evolve orchestration workflows (e.g., Temporal or similar systems) that coordinate complex, cross-system processes.
Deeply understand how data flows through the RTCDP ecosystem — from ingestion to activation — and ensure the architecture supports secure, governed collaboration.
Work across AWS and Azure environments to deliver highly available, cost-efficient, cloud-native services.
Own the full lifecycle: design, build, test automation, CI/CD (using modern continuous integration and delivery platforms), deployment, observability, and operational excellence.
Apply agentic coding and AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate development while maintaining high quality standards.
Partner with cross-geo engineering and product teams to align on architecture, integrations, and long-term strategy.
Challenge assumptions, mentor engineers, and elevate the technical bar of the team.
Act as a technical driver — stepping in to lead initiatives, clarify direction, and move execution forward when needed.
What you need to succeed
9+ years of backend engineering experience building distributed, scalable systems.
Deep expertise in Java and strong experience designing microservices-based architectures.
Proven experience with:
Event-driven architectures and Kafka (or similar streaming platforms)
Large-scale data pipelines (real-time and batch)
Snowflake or modern cloud data warehouses
Workflow orchestration systems such as Temporal
Big data processing ecosystems
Strong experience with CI/CD automation platforms and DevOps best practices.
Hands-on experience building and operating systems in AWS and/or Azure.
Strong foundation in automated testing, observability, and performance optimization.
Ability to understand and navigate complex business ecosystems and translate them into scalable technical designs.
Experience working effectively in distributed, cross-geo teams.
Clear and confident communication skills.
Most importantly:
You think beyond code.
You see architecture as a business enabler.
You take initiative and drive clarity in ambiguity.
Bonus Skills
- Experience within Adobe Experience Platform or RTCDP ecosystem.
- Experience building secure data-sharing or collaboration platforms.
- Strong background in large-scale distributed data systems.
- Demonstrated impact in mentoring senior engineers and influencing architectural direction.
- Practical experience using AI tools and agentic workflows to enhance engineering productivity.
This role is for engineers who want to understand not only how systems work — but why they matter.
In RTCDP Collaboration, you won’t just move data.
You will help enterprises connect, collaborate, and unlock value from their data in ways that directly impact their business success.
If that challenge excites you — let’s talk.
