Join Barclays as a Front Office Senior Java Developer and help deliver a one-stop platform for the global EFG Funding Desk. As part of the Cash Management Program, you will support daily funding operations with real-time, accurate data and help transition settlement cycles from T+2 to T+1. You will be embedded with the business, translating workflows into scalable Java and Spring Boot microservices, contributing to production support and driving continuous improvement with global teams. The role requires strong Core Java/Spring, microservices, Unix/Linux, and SQL skills, with exposure to CI/CD and finance domain knowledge valued.

Join Barclays as a Front Office Senior Java Developer and play a key role in delivering a one-stop platform for the global EFG Funding Desk. As part of the Cash Management Program, you will work closely with the UK and EU Funding Desks, supporting daily funding operations with real-time, accurate data and contributing to the transition from T+2 to T+1 settlement cycles. Embedded with the business, you will act as a hands-on technical partner—translating workflows into scalable Java and Spring Boot solutions, supporting production, and collaborating with global teams to drive continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage directly with business users
  • Proficient in Core Java and Spring Framework with demonstrated hands‑on development experience
  • Strong background in server‑side microservices architecture utilizing real‑time messaging frameworks
  • Solid understanding and practical skills in Unix/Linux environments, including shell scripting fundamentals
  • Advanced SQL capabilities with expertise in stored procedures and database optimization

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • CI/CD and DevOps practices using GitLab
  • Prior exposure to prime brokerage and/or funding/settlements business domain
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly

This role is based in Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes

  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
