Join Barclays as a Full Stack Developer to design and build real-time, high-volume financial applications for the Syndicate Desk, including loan syndication systems. You will work across the full stack using front-end technologies (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS) and back-end Java/Spring Boot microservices, collaborating with product managers, designers and other engineers. The role emphasizes secure, test-driven development, CI/CD, and participation in agile delivery to ensure scalable, maintainable, and performant solutions.

Join Barclays as a Full Stack Developer, where you’ll be responsible for building financial applications used by the Syndicate Desk, including loan syndication systems. These applications should operate in real time and support high-volume usage by multiple users across various platforms.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong front-end development skills with technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js, Redux, Node.js, and testing frameworks (e.g., Jest)
  • Solid experience in back-end technologies including Java, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, JUnit, Mockito, and microservices architecture
  • Proficiency with SQL (MS SQL preferred), cloud technologies, and messaging tools
  • Familiarity with standard DevOps tools such as Jira, Nexus, Confluence, SonarQube, Veracode, GitLab, Maven, NPM.
  • Experience in test-driven development and CI/CD processes, with exposure to automated testing tools (e.g., Cucumber, Selenium)
  • Engaged participation in all aspects of agile software development, including design, implementation, and deployment

Additional highly valued skills include:

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge in Computer Science values, Object-Oriented Design, and Data Structures
  • Experience working on IT projects, ideally within the banking or financial sector
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • Adaptability to new tools, technologies, and methodologies
  • A commitment to staying updated with industry trends and continuous learning

 This role is available in multiple locations, including Knutsford, Northampton, and Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
