The Storage Engineering team at Goldman Sachs is responsible for developing and integrating software products to automate all aspects of storage infrastructure. The team develops provisioning and management automation solutions and integrates vendor hardware and software with GS systems. 

The candidate will be leading a team of software engineers across the globe, providing technical oversight, mentorship, and management. They will drive the implementation, integration and production support of FI Storage software and execute on Storage Engineering software automation and software lifecycle management projects.

We expect the successful candidate to be intimately familiar with Java and its frameworks and methodologies and to have a proven track record leading the delivery of Java platforms. We are looking for a talented and passionate engineer who thrives in an extremely entrepreneurial, fast paced environment. 

This is a high visibility role, backed by some of the senior-most leaders of the firm, and as such, will require creativity and drive to deliver on an ambitious roadmap.

How you will fulfill your potential

• Seasoned, hands-on, senior software engineering lead to join our team of software and storage platform engineers
• Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and management to developers, and execute on storage software automation and storage device lifecycle management projects.
• You’ll work with RESTful web services, distributed database technologies, storage hardware and cloud storage services to build cutting edge automation software
• Ensure that all platforms are built in accordance with the Firm’s SDLC (software development life cycle) practices and tooling, and in accordance with industry-standard design practices such as RESTful web services.
• Account for the resiliency, scalability, and high throughput of platforms by using Open Source technologies such as ElasticSearch, Apache Kafka, and MongoDB.
• Ensure that all platforms take into account the Firm’s Cloud Computing strategy, and are able to interact with external Cloud providers such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) and GCP (Google Cloud Platform).
• Integrate vendor solutions to manage the provisioning, configuration, and life cycle of storage devices.
• Understand business needs, facilitating and developing process workflow, data requirements, and specifications required to support implementation
• Design, build, implement, test and monitor best in class software components for Storage Engineering

  Skills and experience we are looking for

• 7+ years of experience leading software development team
• Comfortable with Agile processes, with an emphasis on writing high-quality, easily testable code
• Previous experience with distributed systems and RESTful web services
• Hands-on experience with Java (17/11) and thorough knowledge of object oriented software engineering concepts
• Experience one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, Bash)
• Proficiency in Hibernate (JPA), SQL, Dependency Injection frameworks (e.g. guice or HK2)
• Hands on experience on REST API/micro-service design and implementation (preferably with Jersey/JAX-RS or dropwizard)
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks (Junit, Fitnesse)
• Familiarity with one or more UI frameworks (Angularjs, Nodejs, Javascript, Typescript)
• Knowledge of source control systems (preferably git/gitlab)
• Understanding of modern application design, best practices and infrastructure

Optional preferred qualifications

• Basic understanding of datacenter infrastructure fundamentals, storage, networks, compute, containers.
