Join ING Hubs Romania as a Senior Java Engineer working on the IPA TradeStore within the IPA platform, delivering uniform pricing of trade portfolios and real-time risk calculations. You will develop Java 17 applications with Spring Boot, design gRPC/REST services in a Big Data ecosystem, and apply Domain-Driven Design and Test-Driven Development. You’ll work with Apache Ignite for distributed in‑memory processing and high-throughput data flows to support end-of-day risk calculations and streaming data. This role involves collaborating with multiple scrum teams across the IPA program to build scalable, low-latency services.

Discover ING Hubs Romania

We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub – a distinct entity from ING Bank Romania – then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies.

ING Hubs Romania offers 130 services in software development, data management, non-financial risk & compliance, audit, and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide, with the help of over 2000 high-performing engineers, risk, and operations professionals.

We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub – a distinct entity from ING Bank Romania – then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies.

Now we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities and operate from two locations: Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.

Our tech capabilities remain the core of our business, with more than 1500 colleagues active in Data Management, Touchpoint Channels & Integration, Core Banking, and Global Products.

We enjoy a flexible way of working and a highly collaborative environment, where fair and constructive feedback is encouraged.

For us, impact isn't a perk. It's the driver of our work.

We are guided and rewarded by a shared desire to make the world a better place, one innovative solution at a time. Our colleagues make it their job to do impactful things and they love doing it in good company. Do you?

The Mission

In the Financial Market environment, building a platform integrating your own pricing and risk models is crucial to stay in control of your risk while keeping a competitive edge. ING Financial Markets has taken up the challenge by initiating the building of the ING Pricing Architecture (IPA) platform.

The IPA project landscape consists of service-oriented components that will enable the real-time and portfolio calculations of financial risk metrics and simulations (e.g. VaR, Expected Shortfall, Bilateral Margining) which are driven by new ECB regulation as well as advanced Risk analysis on the derivative product portfolio of Financial Markets (interest rates, credits, foreign exchange). This will be a key platform in the IT landscape for our global dealing rooms, with 10 scrum teams cooperating towards one Financial Markets IT landscape.

About TradeStore project

TradeStore is one of the core applications within the IPA domain. Its strategic purpose is to provide uniform pricing of trade portfolios, independent of the data structures or complexities of upstream deal‑capture systems (e.g., Murex, Summit).

Tradestore is responsible for:

  • Capturing and processing all trade feeds across the bank via multiple integration methods, and managing their full lifecycle

  • Modeling trade data in a uniform format per product type using Google Protocol Buffers and compressed serialization

  • Serving data through high‑throughput APIs based on gRPC and distributed in‑memory caching systems to support end‑of‑day risk calculations

  • Streaming trade data for pre‑deal pricing and real‑time decisioning

Your day to day

Even if you’ll start your day from the comfort of your home or drink your morning coffee in our office’s garden, your day will be quite similar when comes to tasks. Here are your daily responsibilities:

Software Engineering

  • Develop applications using Java 17 with a strong focus on functional programming

  • Build services using Spring Boot and related Spring modules (web, data, security) or other DI frameworks

  • Design and implement gRPC and REST services in a Big Data ecosystem

  • Apply Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) in daily work

  • Ensure high performance and scalability through:

    • API performance benchmarking

    • Garbage collection tuning

    • Application profiling

    • Efficient processing and transfer of large datasets

    • Designing for real‑time, low‑latency workloads

Big Data & Distributed Systems

  • Work with Apache Ignite as a distributed in‑memory computing platform

  • Handle large‑scale cache usage, distributed computation, and high‑throughput data flows

What you bring to the team

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of Java software engineering experience

  • Advanced Java knowledge, including modern language features

  • Experience in automated testing

  • Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, Confluence, Fortify, GitLab, Maven

  • Understanding of IT Security concepts and secure coding practices

  • Experience with NoSQL technologies or strong SQL + relational data modeling skills

  • Good understanding of Software Architecture principles

  • Advanced English (written and spoken)

  • University degree in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or a related field

Nice to have:

  • A good working knowledge of the Star Wars universe — bonus points if you can name your favorite droid

  • Either experience in banking / financial markets, or a strong interest in learning these domains

  • Prompt‑engineering skills to generate high‑quality code, tests, and documentation through AI tools

  • Ability to maintain development flow and optimize productivity through AI‑enhanced coding practices.
