Join JetBrains as a Senior QA Engineer on the Kotlin Build Tools team, focusing on build tooling support for Kotlin and IDE integration with Gradle and Maven. You will work closely with developers to test new and existing functionality, locate and reproduce bugs, and analyze how build systems operate under the hood, including incremental compilation and integration with third‑party tools. You will master Kotlin Multiplatform and related tooling (Native, JS, Wasm) and help plan automated test coverage for build pipelines across projects and architectures. A strong candidate will have JVM language experience, hands-on build system troubleshooting, independence, and a passion for IDE functionality.

At JetBrains, code is our passion. Ever since we started, back in 2000, we have strived to make the strongest, most effective developer tools on earth. By automating routine checks and corrections, our tools speed up production, freeing developers to grow, discover, and create.

We’re currently seeking a QA Engineer to join the Kotlin Build Tools team, which works on build tools support for Kotlin. This includes providing support for project build systems such as Gradle and Maven, as well as full-fledged support for the Kotlin projects built with them using our IDEs. The team also actively works on supporting and enhancing build tooling for Kotlin Multiplatform and its associated ecosystem, ensuring smooth integration with Android tooling.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Work closely with developers to test new and existing functionality.
  • Search for and localize bugs, and submit the results to our issue tracker.
  • Perform detailed analysis of various build systems (primarily Gradle and Maven), understanding how they work under the hood, how incremental compilation behaves, and how they integrate with JetBrains IDEs and third-party tools (e.g. Xcode).
  • Master relevant technologies adopted by our users, from frameworks like Spring and Ktor to Kotlin Multiplatform setups (Native, JS, and Wasm), including platform-specific tooling.
  • Become a champion of the build configuration for various projects and architectures.
  • Collaborate with developers to plan and refine automated test coverage for build pipelines.

We will be happy to have you on our team if you:

  • Have knowledge of at least one JVM programming language (such as Java or Kotlin).
  • Have practical experience configuring and troubleshooting at least one build system (such as Gradle or Maven) and are ready and able to work with others effectively.
  • Work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks well.
  • Embrace learning new things and taking charge.
  • Have experience in QA.
  • Are interested in the specifics of build systems and IDE functionality.
  • Code at a level sufficient to create test examples and simple programs.

We'd be especially thrilled if you:

  • Have experience working with Kotlin Multiplatform projects and relevant Android projects.
  • Understand incremental compilation and can apply this knowledge to our target languages.
