Lead Software Engineer role within JPMorgan Chase's Consumer & Community Banking Deposits platform, delivering trusted Java-based solutions in an agile, secure, and scalable environment. Responsible for developing secure production code, reviewing peers' work, and driving operational stability through automation and CI/CD integration. Leads a 6-person Agile team, performs architecture evaluations with internal/external stakeholders, and champions modernizing initiatives and best practices in software engineering.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking Deposits platform, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
  • Performs heavy coding utilizing Java, Spring, Microservices/RESTful API, relational databases and Cloud services
  • Leads Agile team of 6 as an active developer and contributor by solving and implementing difficult technology challenges for successful team delivery
  • Expand unit testing automation suite capabilities by integrating tests into CI/CD pipeline; ensuring 100% documentation & unit testing of all code delivered 

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • 8+ years hands on experience using Java, Spring based technologies and event based microservices in a Cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
  • Strong experience with micro services/RESTful API, relational/NoSQL databases, data modeling and data ingestion frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with data streaming and messaging frameworks (Kafka, Spark, etc.)
  • Understanding of containers (Dockers, Kubernetes, Helm, etc.)
  • Influencing & stakeholder management: Aligns roadmaps; secures crossfunctional buyin with data and clear tradeoffs
  • Executive communication: Frames complex tech and risk as business impact with clear options
  • Mentoring: Coaches engineers; builds quality, psychological safety, and continuous improvement
  • Delivery & change leadership: Leads crossteam improvements; drives outcomes through ambiguity and resolves conflict
  • Engineering excellence & judgment: Raises standards for design, reliability, and security; makes pragmatic build/buy/retire calls

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • AWS certification. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
  • Design and implement robust automation frameworks and tools to support continuous integration and delivery
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in performance testing and automation
  • Track record leading modernization programs (e.g., monolith-to-microservices or cloud migrations) in regulated environments
Lead the modernization for Cash and Check Management on AWS, delivering excellent customer experience.
