Lead Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, and modernizing microservices-based platforms within JPMorgan Chase's Commercial & Investment Bank. Acts as a core technical contributor and scrum team leader, balancing hands-on Java/Spring Boot development with technical and people leadership. Collaborates with product partners and architects to shape roadmaps, drive delivery, and ensure quality, resiliency, and operational stability of production systems.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

 

Job responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Lead the design and implementation of key solutions to extend, enhance and modernize our platforms.
  • Balance individual contributor hands-on coding with technical/people leadership of a scrum team.
  • Collaborate with Product partners to shape and drive the roadmap
  • Coach and grow engineers within the scrum team.
  • Take accountability for the quality, stability and resiliency of the team’s deliveries.
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on micro services concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Hands-on experience developing micro services using Java, Spring Boot, REST, Micro services, Cloud Native, DevOps, and Test Driven Development
  • Hands on experience with Database technologies (SQL, DB2, Oracle, No SQL, Cassandra or CockRoachDB) 
  • Experience working within a multi-stakeholder environment partnering with Design Authority and Architect across an organization.
  • Expertise in breaking down product requirements into achievable solutions and execution plans
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in explaining technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods, and understanding all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
  • Practical cloud native experience

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience building distributed systems with micro services
  • Experience with public cloud AWS and container platforms such as AWS ECS, Dockers and Kubernetes
Carry out critical tech solutions across multiple technical areas as an integral part of an agile team
