Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead multiple high‑performing engineering teams building cloud‑native consumer experiences. You will set technical vision and architecture, drive modernization (microservices, event‑driven, cloud), and ensure delivery excellence, reliability, and security at scale. The role requires strong Java/AWS expertise, hands‑on technical leadership, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across Product, Risk, and Operations.

Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India

Senior Manager of Software Engineering

You thrive on mentoring multiple engineering teams, elevating technical standards, and shipping secure, resilient financial technology at scale. You pair strong engineering judgment with clear communication and executive presence. You were made for this.

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer and Community Banking, you will lead high‑performing teams building modern, scalable consumer experiences (including travel products) on cloud‑native platforms. You’ll set technical direction, develop talent, and partner across Product, Design, Risk, Security, and Operations to deliver outcomes that matter. This role is designed for rapid progression to Director for candidates who demonstrate enterprise impact and cross‑org leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Technical Leadership and Strategy
    • Define and communicate the technical vision, architecture, and roadmaps across multiple squads; drive modernization (microservices, event‑driven, cloud‑native) and platform consistency.
    • Balance speed, reliability, security, cost, and compliance; champion NFRs (availability, performance, scalability, resiliency, observability).
    • Establish engineering standards and best practices (coding, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management, security-by-design).
  • Achieve Delivery Excellence and Operational Resilience
    • Own outcomes for a portfolio of products and platforms: set quarterly OKRs, manage dependencies, and ensure predictable delivery.
    • Partner with SRE and Security to meet SLOs/SLAs; reduce incident rates and MTTR; drive root‑cause analysis and preventative engineering.
    • Guide capacity planning, cloud cost management, and production readiness reviews.
  • Enhance Team Leadership and Talent Development
    • Lead and grow managers and engineers; build a culture of inclusion, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
    • Hire, develop, and retain top talent; build succession plans; provide clear feedback and career paths.
    • Foster diverse representation; recognize and reward impact.
  • Facilitate Cross‑Functional Influence and Communication
    • Translate complex technical topics into clear business narratives for senior stakeholders; influence decisions across Product, Risk, Controls, and Operations.
    • Align roadmaps and budgets with business priorities; ensure transparency on trade‑offs, risks, and timing.
    • Drive effective collaboration across teams; remove blockers and escalate with context and options.
  • Implement Governance, Risk, and Compliance
    • Embed secure development practices, data protection, and regulatory considerations in design and delivery.
    • Ensure audit readiness and control adherence throughout the software lifecycle.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • 15+ years of industry experience delivering large‑scale, distributed systems and leading high‑performance engineering teams.
  • Deep hands‑on background with modern technologies: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Cassandra, AWS; familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform/IaC, and modern CI/CD and observability tooling.
  • Proven track record setting technical direction across multiple teams and shipping resilient, secure, and compliant systems at scale.
  • Practical cloud‑native experience (containerization, autoscaling, service meshes, secrets management, zero‑trust patterns).
  • Exceptional communication: executive presence, crisp written and verbal storytelling, ability to influence senior stakeholders and align diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, coaching, and developing managers and senior engineers; building inclusive, high‑trust cultures.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field—or equivalent industry experience with deep technical expertise.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Ability and willingness to operate at code level when needed: perform architecture reviews, code reviews, debugging, and hands‑on prototyping.
  • Experience in event‑driven architectures, streaming patterns, data consistency, and idempotent design.
  • Track record of enterprise modernization (e.g., monolith to microservices), performance tuning, and cost optimization.
  • Contributions to thought leadership: public speaking, publications, patents, or open‑source participation.
