As a Sr Lead Software Engineer in JPMorganChase's Card Technology Organization, you will serve as a core technical contributor on an agile team, delivering trusted, scalable software solutions and guiding architectural decisions. You will design and deliver high-quality software, automate recurring issues, and lead evaluations with vendors and internal teams while mentoring engineers and driving the full SDLC from concept to deployment. You will partner with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver value, elevate code quality, and foster continuous learning through communities of practice.

As a Sr Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Card Technology Organization, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Design and deliver creative, high-quality software solutions, tackling complex challenges with unconventional thinking.
- Develop secure, production-ready code and rigorously review and debug contributions from peers to maintain top standards.
- Identify and automate solutions for recurring issues, ensuring robust and stable systems.
- Lead technical evaluations with vendors, startups, and internal teams to shape architectural decisions and technology adoption.
- Champion new and emerging technologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning through communities of practice.
- Guide and mentor engineering teams, setting technical direction, and nurturing talent for sustained success.
- Manage the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, ensuring seamless delivery.
- Partner with stakeholders, product managers, and cross-functional teams to drive project outcomes and deliver value.
- Elevate code quality, reliability, and scalability through rigorous testing, reviews, and process enhancements.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 5+ years of hands-on experience.
- Over 12 years of experience leading and designing software applications.
- Proven expertise in technical domains such as cloud, AI/ML technologies.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security), and microservices architecture.
- Extensive experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- 5+ years of experience with AWS and cloud platforms (Azure or GCP).
- 5+ years of experience with databases, especially Cassandra and other NoSQL databases.
- Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability.
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security best practices.
- Practical experience with cloud-native development.
- Hands-on experience with both SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra/MongoDB) databases.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Understanding of IT systems in the financial services industry.
- Practical cloud native experience
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Hands-on experience with databases (both SQL, e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL, and NoSQL, e.g., Cassandra/MongoDB)
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
- Knowledge of messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
