We are recruiting for a Lead Software Engineer to join the team and build outstanding customer-facing solutions. In this role, there is an opportunity to craft the future of products across the protection landscape. You will lead the technical development and delivery at Team and Lab level and will be responsible for overall tech delivery line management & app ownership alongside your own software engineering output.
Lead a self-organised engineering teams to design and develop software features or services that delight our customers and contribute to our mission to help Britain prosper.
Be a technical leader within your feature team, providing day-to-day line management, as well as providing leadership in the wider Lab and community, coaching and/or mentoring other engineers, helping them to grow.
You’ll lead and inspire teams to explore, adopt and responsibly integrate AI-driven solutions to achieve great customer outcomes and improve our engineering experience.
Identifies shortcomings, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices, while developing and delivering projects or a workstream within the organisation's change management programme with guidance from senior colleagues.
Provides input into the development of IT Security policies, develops underlying procedures and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organisation.
Analyses and evaluates the feasibility/relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then develops and amends as necessary with guidance from senior colleagues and/or supervises activities performed by a product development/specialist team.

What you’ll need
A technical lead, who takes ownership of delivery and is willing to help grow and guide engineers to form successful teams.
Experience of agile development practices, DevOps pipelines, continuous integration / deployment, test automation and the E2E software development lifecycle.
Strong commercial experience in the full software development lifecycle using a broad range of technologies from those listed below.
Microservices and APIs.
Java, Python, JavaScript.
Data and database programming such as SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, BigQuery.
CI/CD/DevOps tooling experience e.g., GIT, Jenkins, Harness.
Working in the public cloud domain at scale e.g. Google, AWS or Azure.
Strong collaboration and communication skills and an enthusiasm for advocating best practice across Product & Engineering.
