A Specialist Software Engineer responsible for owning medium complexity software components from design (with guidance) to coding, testing and deployment, with high-level guidance for complex components. The role requires thorough SDLC practices, ability to act as a scrum-master when needed, and familiarity with build and release processes. You will communicate with clients on your areas of responsibility, work with cross-functional teams to identify problems and opportunities, and help configure and automate CI/CD pipelines.

A Specialist Software Engineer should possess the ability to own one or more medium complexity software components from the design (with guidance), code, review, estimate and test perspective. He / She should be able to perform coding and testing on complex components with high-level guidance. The Specialist Engineer should be thorough with SDLC practices and should be able to play at least an acting scrum-master if needed. He / She should possess thorough understanding of build and release procedures, processes, and tools. Specialist engineers are expected to communicate with the clients on the specific areas that they own the responsibility for, at operational level.       

Key Responsibilities

  • Should be responsible for a specific functional or technical area.
  • Analyse the requirements, embed the changes into the current design with guidance, code, test and merge the components/ tools/ libraries with highest standards. Applicable for both functional and non-functional aspects.   
  • Ability to perform accurate estimates on implementational changes on the responsible areas
  • Follow the SDLC practices and standards according to the company policies and guidelines
  • Ability to shadow certain Tech lead tasks as required basis at least for short periods (example – Scrum master role)  
  • Ability to communicate clearly on the components that he is responsible for with both internal and external stakeholders    
  • Work closely with these teams in order to discover problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to configure and automate and maintain continues integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines to support software integration and deployment (with guidance)

Candidate Profile / Key Skills

  • Computer Science or Engineering degree  from a recognized, accredited university
  • Very good understanding of object-oriented analysis and design.
  • Hands on experience in Java and Python (2+ years).
  • Hands on experience in C++ would be an added advantage.
  • Experience in building solutions by integrating open source and other third party components.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients, staff and vendors.
