Morgan Stanley is seeking a Java Software Engineer to join the Institutional Securities Tech team in London to develop and maintain a high-performance, multi-threaded valuation and risk platform. You will work closely with quants and desk strategists to renovate system architecture, provide valuation services to trading engines, and support Equity Derivatives business needs. The role requires strong server-side Java (Java 8+) skills, concurrent programming experience, and familiarity with relational databases, UNIX/Linux, CI/CD, and agile methodologies. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working with global teams are essential.

This is a Software Engineering position at Associate level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • The system consists of several multi-threaded server-side components running on a large compute farm, continuously recalculating market sensitivities and P&L throughout the global trading day.

  • The platform also provides valuation services to a variety of internal trading engines, quoting/market making systems and pricing tools used by the trading and sales desks.

  • The software is currently developed by teams based in London, New York, Montreal, Budapest, Paris and Hong Kong in an agile fleet setting.

  • The firm is investing heavily in the platform, to build out capacity and features and to maintain its competitive advantage over the next decade.

  • We are looking for a talented developer to join the Risk2 development team in our London office to work in close partnership with quants and desk strategists to support our Equity Derivatives business.

  • The developer will have a significant input in our strategic initiative to renovate and improve the system architecture.

  • The successful candidate will have excellent technical and analytical skills.

  • Good communication skills are required for interaction with internal clients, senior stakeholders, and colleagues in other regions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Excellent server-side Java skills with exposure on concurrent programming. Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in Java (recently Java 8 or above).

  • Financial Services experience is preferable.

  • Working knowledge of relational databases.

  • Exposure to UNIX / Linux as a platform.

  • Experience of agile methodology.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

  • CI / CD experience.

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Experience with C++ and/or python.
  • TDD
