As an Associate Software Engineer in the CARFAX CFP division, you’ll join a development team working across Poland and the US. You’ll develop and maintain web applications, APIs, and batch services, and contribute in an Agile/XP environment. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—DBAs, network/infrastructure engineers, QA, and other developers—participating in design discussions, code reviews, and technical decisions. You’ll write clean, testable, and maintainable code with a focus on long-term sustainability and ongoing learning.

CARFAX for Police (CFP) is one of the most successful divisions within CARFAX. CFP works directly with thousands of police agencies across the United States and Canada. As a development team, we are responsible for building new investigative tools, crash report collection and analysis tools, and integrating shared services to provide new features to the police forces we serve.

Responsibilities and Impact

As an Associate Software Engineer in the CARFAX CFP division, you will be part of a development team and work closely with colleagues in Poland and the US. Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining web applications, APIs, and batch services
  • Being a strong contributor in a highly collaborative team environment using Agile/XP practices
  • Working with cross-functional teams including DBAs, network/infrastructure/platform engineers, QA, and other developers on a variety of applications
  • Participating in design discussions, code reviews, and technical decisions to improve system quality and performance
  • Writing clean, testable, and maintainable code with a focus on long-term sustainability

What We’re Looking For

Basic Required Qualifications

  • Fluent Polish and good command of English
  • Legal right to work in Poland
  • Commercial experience (or strong equivalent hands-on experience) in Java or another JVM language
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, and to learn from mistakes
  • Familiarity with database concepts (relational and/or NoSQL)
  • Good troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, clean code principles, and design patterns
  • Knowledge of and experience with techniques such as unit testing, pair programming, and code reviews
  • Motivation to continuously learn and improve, both technically and professionally

Preferred Qualifications / Technologies You’ll Work With

Experience with, or strong interest in gaining experience with, some of the following:

  • JVM programming languages (Java/Kotlin/Groovy)
  • React or other modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data, etc.)
  • REST and/or GraphQL APIs
  • AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Unit and integration testing frameworks
  • Build and dependency tools such as Gradle, npm, yarn
  • Git-based workflows (e.g., GitLab CI/CD)
