Position Overview

Since its set-up in 2013, Bucharest Technology Centre (BEX) has constantly proven its capacity to deliver global technology products and services, playing a dynamic role in the Bank’s technology transformation.

As a Lead Frontend‑Web Engineer, you will spearhead frontend development within large‑scale software initiatives, using Angular to build and evolve next‑generation online banking customer journeys. You will collaborate with multiple engineering, UX, product, and security teams to architect and deliver reusable, enterprise‑grade UI components that serve millions of Deutsche Bank customers.

You will provide technical leadership, act as the senior subject‑matter expert for frontend technologies, guide junior and mid‑level engineers, and ensure adherence to high coding, design, and accessibility standards. Your work directly influences critical online banking processes—payments, authentication, security procedures—and contributes significantly to user experience, reliability, and performance at massive scale (50,000–100,000+ concurrent customer sessions).

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Architecture
    • Lead frontend development initiatives using Angular, TypeScript, and RxJS, defining technical direction, architectural patterns, and coding standards.
    • Collaborate across teams to design, build, and optimize reusable frontend frameworks and components for online banking and other mission critical applications.
    • Own the continuous enhancement of high security online banking flows (payments, authentication, authorization, sensitive customer interactions).
  • Scalability, Reliability & Performance
    • Ensure all frontend solutions meet stringent requirements for scalability, resilience, and availability under extremely high load (50,000-100,000+ parallel customer accesses).
    • Work closely with backend, SRE, and cloud teams to optimize for distributed architectures and global-scale traffic.
  • Coaching, Mentoring & Cross Team Enablement
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for frontend topics; provide mentoring, architectural guidance, and code reviews for junior and mid-level engineers.
    • Deliver training sessions and promote knowledge sharing via the Frontend Guild and cross team workshops.
  • Quality, Accessibility & Engineering Excellence
    • Ensure high quality delivery and adherence to modern frontend engineering practices including: Component architecture, Modular SPA patterns, State management, Automated testing.
    • Drive compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA Accessibility standards and secure coding guidelines.

Skills

  • Technical Expertise
    • Several years of hands-on experience building large scale Single Page Applications (SPAs) using: Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, REST based microservices.
    • Deep expertise in responsive UI development: HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, Bootstrap 4+.
    • Advanced practical experience in frontend testing using Karma/Jasmine or Jest.
    • Strong knowledge of Node.js and REST service integration for end to end UI workflows.
    • Experience with modern monorepo tooling such as Nx is a plus.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills
    • Excellent analytical and communication skills; strong independence and initiative in driving design and delivery.
    • Experience providing technical and methodological coaching to UI/UX Engineers; active contributor to continuous skill uplift across teams.
    • Proven ability to influence architectural decisions, collaborate in cross functional agile teams, and operate effectively in fast paced delivery environments.
  • Drive & Motivation
    • Passion for learning and adopting new frontend frameworks, tooling, and web platform technologies.
  • Languages
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • German proficiency (B1+) is a plus.
