G-Research is seeking a Frontend Engineer to join the Research and Trade DX team in London to build and operate developer-facing tooling and web experiences. You will design and implement Backstage plugins and React applications, develop TypeScript/Node.js backend services, and manage CI/CD and Kubernetes deployments. The role includes owning features end-to-end, participating in on-call rotations, and mentoring junior engineers while driving improvements to developer experience. Collaboration across engineering teams and responsibility for scalable, observable architectures are key aspects of the role.
We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance, by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity.
From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve. Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.

Take the next step in your career.
The role
We’re looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our Research and Trade DX team in London.
Sitting within the Basecamp Technology group and providing specialised engineering capabilities and scalable components to our Research and Trade Technology groups, this is an impactful role that will require you to design, build and operate scalable solutions that enhance the developer experience across our entire organisation.
You will play a key role in defining and implementing the team’s technical direction, working in close collaboration with engineering teams across the organisation to build out our best-in-class tooling. You’ll own features end-to-end, raise the bar for code quality and shorten idea-to-production cycles.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Creating intuitive web experiences by building and evolving Backstage plugins and other React applications
Designing and operating scalable TypeScript and Node.js back-end services on Linux and K8s
Embedding unit, integration and end-to-end tests and managing automated CI/CD pipelines, using GitHub, Jenkins and Argo CD
Taking full operational responsibility for the components you create, including on-call participation and post-incident reviews
Mentoring junior engineers, sharing knowledge through code reviews and tech talks, and fostering continuous learning within the team
Identifying workflow friction, prototyping solutions quickly and iterating with stakeholders across the organisation.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience delivering end-to-end systems with React, TypeScript, and Node.js
Practical knowledge of Backstage (plugin development, software catalogue, TechDocs)
Ability to design scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient distributed architectures
Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability stacks
Experience integrating and securing services on major cloud platforms
Confidence leading architecture discussions and small technical initiatives
Strong written communication, producing clear design docs and RFCs
Passion for developer experience and measurable productivity improvements
A history of mentoring and fostering an inclusive, high-trust culture
Why should you apply?
Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar
30 days’ annual leave
9% company pension contributions
Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance
Cycle-to-work scheme
Monthly company events
