Role summary

Over the last two years we built Mistral’s primary public website, scaling it to millions of monthly users. Looking ahead, our online presence will extend beyond a single site - into microsites, event pages, legal pages and a careers portal - creating a broader ecosystem that must be managed cohesively. You’ll be responsible for defining the CMS strategy to support this growth, whether by unifying everything into one platform or tailoring specialised systems for specific needs.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer (CMS & Web) to build from the ground up. You will own the CMS and deployment stack, design an intuitive editor experience, and keep hosting costs under control. This is a confirmed individual-contributor role (3–6 years’ experience) focused on building infrastructure. You’ll work closely with marketing, design and developer-relations teams to give them the tools they need to ship fast.

What you will do

• Design and implement our next-generation CMS. Evaluate options and build an architecture that supports rapid content growth. In line with industry best practices for headless CMS developers, you will design content models, schemas and taxonomies; implement preview, versioning and publishing workflows; and provide a robust API for our front-end.
• Develop and maintain content APIs Build and optimise REST/GraphQL endpoints for content delivery across web and future channels. Implement caching strategies and CDN integration to achieve sub-200 ms page loads worldwide.
• Integrate with modern front-end frameworks. Work alongside our web engineering team to ensure seamless integration with modern typescript frameworks and related libraries. Create content previews and one-click staging environments so marketers can see changes before publishing.
• Reimagine the deployment pipeline. Create fast, safe and cost-efficient CI/CD pipelines. Aim for “git push → live in under 5 minutes” with automated rollbacks and 99.9 % uptime. Support both managed platforms (Vercel/Netlify) and self-hosted deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Empower non-technical users. Build intuitive, smooth editing experiences so the marketing team can publish updates without developer intervention. Provide documentation and train colleagues on how to use and extend the CMS.
• Monitor performance and costs. Establish KPIs such as time-to-deploy, adoption rate, uptime and hosting spend. Continuously optimise for reliability and efficiency.

About you

• Experience with headless CMS - you have at least 3 years’ experience building with headless platforms such as Directus, Strapi, Contentful or Sanity. You know how to design and modify data models, implement content workflows and build robust APIs. You are a backend-leaning engineer who has deployed complex CMS projects in companies.
• Strong in TypeScript and Node.js. Comfortable designing services and APIs in JavaScript/TypeScript and integrating them with modern front-end frameworks.
• Deployment expertise. You have hands-on experience with Vercel, Netlify and self-hosting (Docker, CI/CD pipelines) and understand how to optimise for cost and reliability.
• Collaborative communicator. Fluent in English and able to work with distributed marketing and engineering teams; French is a plus.
• Pragmatic, cost-conscious and ownership-driven. You default to simple solutions, write clear documentation and treat the company’s resources like your own. You enjoy “rip-and-replace” projects and aren’t tied to legacy systems.
• Nice-to-have: open-source contributions; experience slashing cloud spend; familiarity with AI-assisted content workflows; contributions to open-source headless CMS projects.

Hiring Process

• Talent Acquisition screening - quick call to discuss your experience and motivations - 30 min
• Hiring Manager interview - deep dive into your CMS experience and portfolio - 30 min
• Use-case - 1 hour
• Culture-fit discussion - 30 min
• Reference checks
