Vanguard’s Trading Analytics and Strategy (TAS) team works with global trading desks to optimize trading strategies and minimize transaction costs through data-driven analyses and tools. The Quantitative Trading Analyst will research, evaluate, test, and implement cutting-edge trading technology, analytics, and data sources to support the transaction cost analysis program. Responsibilities include working independently on transaction cost analysis, enhancing models and data processes, delivering reporting and analytics, and communicating results to internal and external audiences. This role offers opportunities to develop and quickly assume more responsibility within a fast-paced, growing department.

Provides research and evaluation for, and supports the implementation of, transformative trading processes, technologies, and analytic tools to minimize transaction costs.

Vanguard’s Trading Analytics and Strategy (TAS) team works with our global trading desks to optimize their trading strategies, saving millions of dollars for clients every year. The team works with our trader and portfolio manager partners, across asset classes and passive as well as active mandates, to conduct data-driven analyses and build tools to help shape our trading strategy. Vanguard’s trading desk trade over $15 trillion annually and is one of the largest market participants in the world. Vanguard manages over $9 trillion of both active and passive Equity and Fixed Income products.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a self-directed candidate with excellent quantitative, communication skills, a passion for markets, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. The role provides the successful candidate with opportunities to develop and quickly assume more responsibility within a rapidly changing and growing department.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches, evaluates, tests, and implements cutting-edge trading technology, analytics, data sources, and other tools.

  • Works independently on transaction cost analysis, under the guidance of senior analysts, to maintain and enhance processes for trading desks based on rigorous research and quantitative analysis.

  • Resolves issues involving data, infrastructure, and prototype technology tools leveraged by the transaction cost analysis processes. Enhances existing models, develops data sources and processes, and communicates results.

  • Provides reporting and analytics to assist in shaping the future of the transaction cost analysis and trading agenda.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of market structure, microstructure, and transaction cost analysis in order to bring an informed perspective to the research process.

  • Represents Vanguard effectively to internal and external audiences.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or above in quantitative discipline required. Graduate degree and/or professional certification (CFA, FRM) preferred.

  • Minimum of two years related work experience. Supervisory experience preferred

  • Strong foundation of cross asset class investment knowledge.

  • Ability to handle multiple, complex projects with attention to detail while meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Experience with Python, R, SQL, or related programming languages highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment with multiple and diverse responsibilities.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
