Join the Alexa Smarthome SHCC QA team as a Quality Assurance Engineer II, responsible for developing test strategies, creating test cases, and building test automation to ensure high-quality Smarthome features. You will work with Software Development Engineers, Product Management, UX Design, and Customer Support to understand customer usage and create realistic regression tests. The role requires experience in manual testing, automation testing, and scripting or coding, with knowledge of software engineering practices across the full SDLC, and comfort in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will test in a Linux environment, use virtual machines, and contribute to quality-centric processes.

Alexa Smarthome Home team is responsible for integrating your smart home devices with Alexa and bringing your home to life! Our products complement the Alexa voice experience by giving customers quick and intuitive ways to interact with their home during moments that are more suited for touch and screen-based interactions.

Key job responsibilities
QA Engineers test code through a variety of methods, which include: manual test cases, writing test automation, and use of various tools. Our QA Engineers use black box, gray box, and white box testing techniques; they are able to understand software internals, debug problems using log files, and write automated tests and/or user-level test automation tools. Software QA Engineers work with Software Development Engineers to understand features and technical implementation. Software QA Engineers also work with groups such as Product Management, User Experience Design, and Customer Support to understand customer usage models and develop test plans and test suites that approximate real-world environments and regression tests. Software QA Engineers are also responsible for driving the software development process toward quality-centric methodologies.

A day in the life
- Responsible for development of test strategies, test case creation, test automation, and contributions to appropriate test harnesses.
- Will work with a team of quality engineering professions to ensure the highest quality product delivery
- Evaluate product functionality and create test strategies and test cases to assess product quality.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience developing in a Linux environment and in utilizingvirtual machines
- Expert in software quality and testing methodologies
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment.



About the team
SHCC QA team owns Smarthome core GUI experience on the Alexa app and Multimodal devices.
SHCC QA exists to enable friction free end customer experience, iterative development of high quality Smarthome features.

Basic Qualifications

- 4+ years of quality assurance engineering experience
- Experience in manual testing
- Experience in automation testing
- Experience scripting or coding
- Experience as QA lead on medium to large sized projects

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with at least one automated test framework like Selenium or Appium
- Experience in gathering test requirements to create detailed test plans and defining quality metrics to measure product quality
