Joining the WWGST GRAISE team as a Software Development Engineer II in Test, you will design and implement test automation for embedded software, device provisioning, and IoT management on in-store hardware. You’ll own test automation suites for embedded software, validate resiliency of AWS cloud services, and collaborate with firmware, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers. The role blends software testing with hardware-in-the-loop and AI/ML workflows, and requires ownership of cross-functional initiatives that impact customer shopping experiences. It’s a fast-paced role offering opportunities to influence in-store technology across Amazon's grocery platforms.

Worldwide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST) is seeking a Software Dev Engineer II in Test to join our Grocery Retail and In-Store Experience (GRAISE) team. You'll implement test automation for deployment, IoT device management, and provisioning software for embedded systems. This role is at the intersection of hardware, software, and manufacturing. You'll be at the forefront of revolutionizing the in-store shopping experience, developing new technologies to create engaging shopping experiences for our customers.

The team owns foundational software for embedded systems. Our goal is to solve interesting scalability problems faced only physical stores. We work with fleets of high powered SoCs used for AI/ML workflows and direct use by customers. This role will work closely with firmware, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers. This role will also work closely with machine learning and AI scientists.

This role offers the unique opportunity to shape the future of retail technology at one of the world's most innovative companies. The ideal candidate will blend technical acumen with strategic thinking, thriving in a fast-paced environment where they can make a tangible impact on millions of customers' shopping experiences.

Key job responsibilities
A SDE II - Test implements solutions for complex problems that are unique to smart grocery devices, and are rarely encountered in the traditional embedded world. The SDE II -Test owns design and implementation of test automation suites for our embedded software that runs on physical devices. They build tests to prove the resiliency of our corresponding cloud side services in AWS.

The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated ability to lead broad, cross-functional activities beyond software testing. You will invent and deliver on key projects that directly impacts our end customer experience. You'll develop with a team of highly motivated and talented builders who can collaborate with product managers, technical specialists, and principals across the company.

You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects, and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven’t been solved at scale before - anywhere. You will encounter challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. We’re looking for entrepreneurs who are passionate about innovating on behalf of customers, can demonstrate a high degree of ownership, and want to have fun while they make history and craft beautiful products.

A day in the life
A typical day may start with a few hours of writing code in Python/Rust/Bash, followed by standup. In the afternoon: drafting of a design of hardware in the loop test suites.
