Ground Software Systems Engineer

The Opportunity: 

Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact on national security space missions? You understand your customer’s environment and how to develop the right systems for their mission. Your ability to translate real-world needs into technical specifications makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused engineering solution. On our team, you will work will Booz Allen colleagues, other support contractors, and U.S. Space Force personnel to develop and deploy modern ground systems to support rapid acquisition of future capabilities. You will be an integral part of the engineering branch to assist the government in ensuring space, ground, and crypto segments are integrated successfully to meet user’s needs. You will provide direct support to the chief engineer and manage the Booz Allen engineering team supporting the program office. Your expertise and innovative thinking will be critical to ensuring capabilities are delivered to meet the threat.

You Have: 

  • 7+ years of experience with systems engineering, implementing software to integrate multiple ground system components, including satellite command and control, data processing, communications, and mission planning systems  
  • 7+ years of experience with software development using programming languages, technologies, tools, or web development stacks, including C++ or Python 
  • 2+ years of experience with program reviews, including SRR, SDR and SFR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, FCA, and PCA 
  • 2+ years of experience developing or evaluating software design documentation, interface documentation, technical reports, and integration procedures for operational use and future development 
  • Experience assessing, modifying, developing, writing, and implementing software programming applications 
  • Experience with integration tests, system-level tests, troubleshooting, and debugging to verify software functionality and system interoperability 
  • Ability to analyze software or firmware extracted from weapon systems for capability and performance characterization, and vulnerability assessments 
  • Ability to work proactively with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, cybersecurity, and operations, to gather requirements and ensure alignment with mission goals 
  • Secret clearance 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field  

Nice If You Have: 

  • ​Experience with Java, Python, C#, C/C++, .NET, JavaScript, React, NodeJS, PHP, or Drupal  
  • Experience transitioning systems from development to operations 
  • Experience developing automation scripts and tools to streamline system integration, testing, and deployment processes 
  • Knowledge of Agile or Agile-related software development methodologies 
  • Knowledge of software development standards such as DO-178C 
  • Ability to acquire client requirements and resolve workflow problems through automation optimization 
  • Ability to work with automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance  
  • Top Secret clearance

Clearance:

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
