At bp, energy trading comes together in our global bp supply, trading and shipping (ST&S) group. It is where we link our experience as a leading energy producer with our knowledge of specific markets to provide customers with the energy products they need. The ever shifting geo-political, regulatory and environmental landscape provides an outstanding opportunity for high potential candidates to understand at the most granular level how energy drives the world. 

 

We have new opportunities for individuals to spend one year full-time with our Market Analytics team starting June 2026.

 

The team leverages math, logic, and interpersonal skills to translate everything - from geo-political events to local supply/demand distortions – into a market view that can be monetized through trading positions.  

 

Joining this internship programme, you would primarily support analysis work for short to long term market fundamentals, with a strong focus on ship-tracking which is one of the pillars of trading fundamental analysis. 

 

The work is fast paced and technically demanding. Successful candidates will have a fulfilling and meaningful experience as part of a highly commercial organization. 

 

Your Role 

The work will provide exposure to the various data and methodologies employed in market analytics. You will be able to learn more about the regional energy markets and the underlying fundamentals. Individuals on the programme will be responsible for monitoring regional flows for a particular portfolio (crude, distillates, fuel oil, gasoline or petrochemicals) across the Eastern Hemisphere region, and arbitrages to the west, primarily through ship tracking activity. 

You will partner closely with the market strategists and traders on the tracking of arbitrage activity and maintain close relationships with other members on the trading bench including charterers, trading operators and trading exposure analysts. You will also have opportunities to participate in new development projects and contribute to the continuous improvement of our processes and models. 

 

What we look for 

Undergraduates with a keen interest in the commodity sector and/or a passion in market analysis are encouraged to apply.  

 

Competencies that are desirable for a successful intern: 

  • Strong analytical, reasoning and mathematical skills; ability to connect the dots and see patterns 

  • Demonstrates drive, willingness and agility to learn 

  • Knowledge of Excel / VBA and ability to work with data 

  • Proficiency in Python or an ability to demonstrate an interest and aptitude to do so 

  • Curiosity and passion to understand how energy drives the world 

 

To be eligible for this programme you:  

  • are pursuing a bachelors or masters (this may include Commerce, Business, Finance, Economics, Sustainability, Engineering etc)  

  • are in your penultimate year of study and will graduate between December 2027 to July 2028 
     

  • are able to commit full time to the internship from June 2026 till July 2027.

  • hold a Singapore citizenship or Permanent Residency  

 

Candidates who perform well on the internship programme could be extended an offer to join the 2028 supply, trading & shipping graduate 

programme on the Analytics track.
