Role Overview

The MiFID Product Owner is responsible for building and executing the EU MiFID product roadmap, including regulated investment and derivatives products such as futures, perpetuals, options, CFDs, and structured products. This role ensures all product mechanisms, risk models, and user flows are designed fully aligned with the MiFID II regulatory framework, UK/EU best practices, and the firm’s internal compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

MiFID Product Strategy & Roadmap

• Develop and own the EU MiFID product roadmap, including product prioritization, feature scoping, compliance gating, and launch plan.
• Translate MiFID II regulatory requirements into clear product design specifications.
• Benchmark EU competitors (Binance, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin, European brokers) and propose innovation opportunities.

Derivatives Product Mechanism Design

Design full trading mechanisms for:

• Futures and Perpetual: margin models, funding rates, security pool, liquidation engine parameters.
• Options: contract specs, pricing logic, settlement rules
• CFD: leverage rules, underlying assets, exposure caps.
• Structured products: autocallable, dual-currency, yield structures under MiFID constraints.

Lead for liquidity building for these products

Compliance-by-Design Product Architecture

• Embed MiFID obligations into the product architecture:
• Client categorization (retail/professional/eligible counterparty)
• Appropriateness & suitability tests
• EMT disclosure and KID/KIIDs
• Best execution policies
• Product governance (target market, distribution channel controls)
• Conflict-of-interest guardrails
• Work closely with Compliance and Legal to validate every product feature.

Risk Management & Control Framework

• Design risk procedures, including exposure limits, real-time margin risk, leverage caps, risk alerts, and circuit breakers.
• Coordinate with Risk and Treasury to define:
• VaR/LVaR framework
• Stress testing
• Pricing risk control
• Liquidity provision and hedging strategies
• Build monitoring dashboards for EU MiFID entity.

Project Management & Cross-functional Delivery

• Lead the product lifecycle from ideation → regulatory mapping → BRD → design → build → launch.
• Coordinate with Tech, Risk, Ops, Compliance, Marketing and EU Leadership teams.
• Ensure product readiness for regulatory audits and supervisory inspections.

Professional skills

• More than 5 years of futures trading experience, familiar with mainstream exchange rules and futures contract details (order placement, modification, withdrawal, matching, trading and forced liquidation)
• Proficient in cross-exchange arbitrage related trading strategies (basis/spot structure arbitrage, etc.)
• Proficient in python, with strategy backtesting, data analysis, algorithm optimization and formulation capabilities
• Good breadth across different products including derivatives, futures, options, structured products, forex, CFD and other Tradfi products

Soft qualities

• Excellent logical thinking and fast learning ability, independent problem solving
• Excellent cross-departmental communication skills, able to coordinate quantitative and risk control teams to solve complex problems

Experience requirements

• More than 5 years of derivatives trading experience, proficient in contract trading rules (such as index, mark price, opening and closing mechanism, position limit, margin calculation and liquidation mechanism)
• Bilingual in both English and Mandarin
• Experienced in the full life cycle delivery process of exchange derivatives
• Experienced in dealing with extreme black swan events (such as LUNA collapse, exchange downtime), able to independently complete risk plan mechanism
