The Short-Term Analytical Team is an operational team with the following structure:
- A first team of 7 short-term power analysts, a deputy manager, and a manager, dedicated to the optimization of the EDF assets. These analysts are working 7/7 in Paris and their core role is centred on the daily optimisation of the EDF production portfolio in France. The analyst on shift must assess the net EDF position for each half hour and forecast the available upward and downward flexibility as well as the production costs and constraints associated with these flexibilities. These flexibilities and constraints must be translated into epex orders for an economically efficient optimisation on the Day Ahead (DA) electricity market to take place. In addition to the active power, the participation to the ancillary services tenders is in the scope of this activity. Beyond the DA optimization, the team is also computing the costs and position of the EDF portfolio on the Week-Ahead (WA) horizons.
- 6 market analysts and a manager supporting the French Desk during the weekdays: 3 analysts are supporting the Intra-Day (ID) desks in Paris, 3 analysts are supporting the DA and WA traders in London
- An Analytics Engineering Manager and an Analytics Software Engineer giving direction of the technology choices and ensuring sustainability of the tools.
Position purpose
The short-term optimization team works closely with the power traders and has a dual role covering both operational and development duties. At an operational level, the output from the team is integral to the trading strategy employed by EDF Trading on the Day Ahead and Week Ahead Stage.
At a development level, the team oversees the whole data set and quality either for EDF or counterparties assets. These data are fundamental for the forecasting models, and the team also proposes and implements innovative approaches aiming to enhance EDFT market understandings.
On behalf of its position on the market, providing EDF asset portfolio optimisation on EPEX, the individual supports the best practices and communication with EDF group, ensuring cooperation between all parties.
Main responsibilities
Main Operational Responsibilities:
- Conduct EDF system Risk analysis
- Collate and analyse real time data relative to the EDF asset portfolio
- Create and run of specific risk analyses/scenarios related to the EDF asset portfolio for 3 different time frames (ID, DA, WA)
- Communicate time sensitive information to the traders in Paris and in London
- Ensure the EDF assets flexibility are well optimised on the OTC market and on EPEX
- Contribute to EDF Trading‘s power market analysis across Europe and carry out particular studies for the Trading and Origination teams
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including REMIT, through the consistent application of defined processes
Main Development Duties:
- Responsible for tools used for front office operational shifts.
- Develop and enhance analytical tools using Python and JavaScript (with occasional Rust).
- Ensure data availability and its quality
- Identify, propose, and implement innovative tools to support emerging business opportunities.
- Improve existing forecasting models or create new ones for the EDF asset portfolio.

Experience required
Experience in either a commodities trading environment (for example trading, asset optimisation, risk management or portfolio analysis) or in a closely related working environment.
Technical requirements
- Fluent in French & English
- Educated to degree level, preferably with a high statistics or mathematics component or equivalent experience
- Some interest or skills in building optimisation models and machine learning.
- Skills in Python and Javascript
- Knowledge in MongoDB, SQL, Rust are desirable
